Klondike is one of the longest-lived shareware solitaire games on the Macintosh. First released in 1984 by Mike Casteel (mac@casteel.org), it grew over many revisions into a four-game collection. Version 7.0.1, preserved in the Info-Mac archive, runs on essentially every classic Mac and remains a definitive example of vintage Mac card play.
Four Games in One
The 7.x release bundles Klondike alongside Canfield, Golf, and Racing Demons, giving players a small suite of related solitaire variants under one application.
Optional Arcade Scoring
An optional video-game-style scoring mode is one of the package's signature features, layering points and pacing on top of the otherwise classical solitaire rulesets.
Almost-Unlimited Undo
The program offers an almost-unlimited UNDO capability, letting players step back through long sequences of moves, which the read-me highlights as a popular feature among long-time users.
Heritage
With a release lineage stretching back to 1984, Casteel's Klondike is one of the earliest Macintosh shareware titles to remain actively maintained into the System 7, 8, and 9 eras.
