About

Iconcentration is a Mac shareware twist on the classic Concentration memory game -- the children's pairs game where a grid of face-down cards is flipped two at a time looking for matches. Its hook is right in the name: instead of cards, the tiles are Macintosh icons, drawn from system resources and customizable from the player's own icon collection.

Gameplay

A grid of face-down tiles fills the playfield. Click one to reveal its icon, click a second to attempt a match. Matched pairs stay revealed; mismatches flip back. The round ends when the board is cleared, with the score driven by the number of attempts taken.

Icon-driven theme

The use of Macintosh icons as the matching art is what gives Iconcentration its identity. Because Mac OS resource forks make icons easy to extract and substitute, players can in many builds drop in their own icon sets -- application icons, document icons, custom artwork -- to personalize the deck.

Difficulty and presentation

Standard difficulty options scale the grid size from a small introductory layout up to larger boards that genuinely tax memory. The presentation is pure Mac: a single playfield window, the standard menu bar, and crisp 32x32 icon art at the heart of every match.

Compatibility

Iconcentration is a 68k Macintosh binary suited to System 7 through Mac OS 9. It will run on PowerPC machines via the 68k emulator. No Carbon or Mac OS X native build is known to survive.

Lineage

The game is part of a small family of Concentration clones for the Mac -- joining titles like Concentration and Memory -- but distinguishes itself by leaning into Mac OS's distinctive icon culture rather than using generic card or tile art.
