Word Hider 1.0 is a Macintosh utility for generating word-search puzzles from a vocabulary list you supply. It does not ship with built-in vocabularies and does not solve puzzles, only creates them, leaving the puzzle content fully under the user's control.
Designed for parents and teachers
The author, Richard McDonald, built Word Hider to generate puzzles for educational use, citing his daughter's spelling lists and a friend's English-teaching practice as the original use cases.
Print layout features
The program includes facilities for laying out the generated puzzle, the word list and other items on a printed page, so the output is ready to hand out as a worksheet.
Filler text and hidden messages
Unused puzzle cells can be filled with random text or with a hidden message, and the program can print a fill-in-the-blanks area for receiving the decoded message.
Distribution and system requirements
The release is freeware; the author retains copyright but permits free use and redistribution. The package is a 68020+ build tested on System 7.1 and System 7.5, and bundles the application, a Microsoft Word 5.1 manual and a README in a self-extracting archive.
