Clear Stream is a 1995 Macintosh poetry composition tool by Robert Flannery, built around the Japanese renga form - a chained verse tradition where each new stanza links to the one before it. Rather than producing standalone poems, the program guides writers through interconnected verses one link at a time.
What it does
The application scaffolds the renga chaining process, prompting the writer through linked units. As the documentation puts it, "It's more fun to do it than to explain it."
