ISO Cat v1.0.0 is a freeware virtual-pet desk toy from Argus IG that simulates the experience of owning a cat without any of the maintenance: no annoying beeps, toots or gongs of common digital pets, no shedding, no spraying and no risk of feline leukemia. The pet cat-vorts about your screen and dispenses unconditional love in classic feline fashion, by acting as if you do not exist.
The pitch
The author bills ISO Cat as the pick of the litter among needful digital pets. It is purely decorative, with hands-free operation: you launch it, the cat lives in its window and entertains itself, and you go back to whatever you were doing.
Pseudo-technical lineage
ISO Cat's marketing copy notes that every bone in the feline skeleton was three-dimensionally scanned, laser-optimized, pixellated, and then erased using a bulk demagnetizer, leaving the on-screen cat as the surviving artifact of the process.
System requirements
Runs on any Macintosh or Macintosh-compatible computer running System 7 or later. Distributed as freeware with no nag screens or fees.
