Magic 8 is a HyperCard stack by the author dano622 (dano622@yahoo.com), distributed via the Info-Mac archive as a Macintosh recreation of the classic Magic 8 Ball novelty toy. The user types or thinks of a yes-or-no question, clicks, and the stack returns one of the familiar fortune-telling answers.
Concept
The stack is, in the author's words, "modeled after the always fun Magic 8 ball. Just ask it questions and it will have the answer." It is a deliberately small, light-hearted amusement rather than a full game, in the vein of the many single-purpose HyperCard stacks that proliferated on Info-Mac in the 1990s.
Version 2.1
The Info-Mac upload (magic-8-21.hqx) corresponds to Magic 8 version 2.1. The author offers no detailed changelog beyond a general invitation: "Thanks for trying it. Hope you enjoy it."
System requirements
The stack requires HyperCard Player or HyperCard 2.0 or later. Per the author, "It will run on any Macintosh" capable of hosting HyperCard, making it broadly compatible across the classic Mac line.
Note on identity
This entry is the dano622 HyperCard stack specifically; a separate "Magic 8-Ball" application by Tristan A. Farnon (1994) exists on Macintosh Garden but is a different program and is not described here.
