About

Farkle 2.5.1 is a Macintosh implementation of the classic push-your-luck dice game of the same name, distributed on Info-Mac by cjk@flash.net. One to four players take turns rolling dice, scoring on selected combinations, and deciding whether to bank points or risk everything by rolling again toward the goal score.

The dice game

Each turn the active player rolls six dice, sets aside scoring dice (such as ones, fives, three-of-a-kinds, straights), and may either stop and bank the running total or re-roll the remaining dice for more points - a roll with no scoring dice is a "farkle" and wipes the turn's score.

Players and opponents

Farkle supports one to four players in any combination of human and computer opponents, so the game can be played solo against the Mac or as a pass-the-mouse party game.

Scoring and goal

Standard Farkle scoring rules apply, with players racing to reach a target total before their opponents. The risk-reward decision of when to stop is the heart of every turn.

Distribution

Farkle was released as a small free download on the Info-Mac game archive in the mid-1990s.
