Prelude is the opening chapter of The Icthian Project, a 1998 point-and-click adventure for the Mac built by Daniel Davis at D.C. Inc. using GameMaker. Archived in Info-Mac as prelude.hqx and on Macintosh Garden as TheIcthianProject_Prelude.sit, it casts the player as a prominent scientist in 2300 AD, just back from a mission to Icarud.
Premise
The player's assistant Mortimer reports that a fusion generation unit the scientist has been developing is nearly complete, but communications with three production regions have gone dark. A competing scientific firm is the obvious suspect.
Engine and perspective
Macintosh Garden lists Prelude as a point-and-click adventure built on GameMaker #1, the same Mac authoring system behind a long line of late-90s shareware adventures.
Compatibility
The Macintosh Garden listing tags the game for System 7.0 through 7.6 and Mac OS 9 on 68k architecture, with SheepShaver called out as a known-good emulation target.
Distribution
Info-Mac distributes the BinHexed copy as game/prelude.hqx; Macintosh Garden mirrors a 553 KB StuffIt build (MD5 18f8ae2460b2574938cfda53fceb0212) and credits Daniel Davis as author and D.C. Inc. as publisher.
