Bushfire is a small but addictive Macintosh game by Strange Flavour (2001). The Info-Mac release of version 1.2.0 describes it as "an easy hex based strategy game where you fight bushfires and try to stop a map from burning," while Macintosh Garden frames the action as a helicopter pilot putting out forest fires and rescuing civilians.
Hex-Based Strategy
The 1.2.0 release note explicitly characterizes Bushfire as a turn-based hex-grid strategy title rather than a twitch arcade game: the player works across the map containing the fire's spread before it consumes everything.
Scenario Editor
The 1.2.0 package ships with a scenario editor, letting players design their own maps and fire situations rather than being limited to the bundled scenarios.
System Requirements
Macintosh Garden lists a minimum spec of a G3/300 with 32 MB RAM, 4 MB VRAM, and a 640x480 display at thousands of colours, with a G4/400 and 64 MB RAM preferred. It runs on Mac OS 8/9 with CarbonLib and on Mac OS X 10.0.2 or later.
Distribution
Bushfire was distributed by Strange Flavour and is contactable through the Kagi shareware channel (cthulhu@kagi.com), with Info-Mac and Macintosh Garden both preserving downloadable copies of v1.11/1.2.0.
