Strategram is a strategy board game from Artishock, Inc. of New York, distributed in 1997 as a free demo (version 1.0) to preview the full release. The author's pitch frames it as easy to learn, challenging to play, and as addictive as Solitaire or Tetris -- a board-game-shaped puzzle where, as the title hints, strategy is the key.
Concept
Artishock positioned Strategram as an all-ages strategy title rather than a niche hardcore board game. The demo invites players to preview the mechanics before deciding to register, in keeping with the late-1990s shareware-demo distribution model the Mac scene was built on.
System needs
The demo runs on any 68020-or-better Macintosh under System 7.0 with a 256-color display. The download itself is roughly 878 KB, small enough to ride along on magazine cover discs and the Info-Mac mirror network of the period.
Distribution
Strategram was uploaded to the Info-Mac board games directory by Tomer Sidis on behalf of Artishock, Inc., 520 Madison Ave., New York. The full retail version was offered separately; this archive entry preserves the demo as it shipped.
