Hexx is a 1995 puzzle game for the classic Mac by Phil Stroffolino in which players fire colored hexagons toward the top of the playfield, matching three or more of a color to dissolve them and clear the board. Each cleared screen advances the player to the next stage, and the original download bundles two level sets to extend play.
Match-Three Hex Mechanics
The core loop is simple to learn but tuned for escalating difficulty: aim, fire, and chain matches before the field crowds out from above. Color groups of three or more vanish on contact, rewarding planning over reflex.
Two Level Sets
The release ships with two distinct level packs, giving the puzzle a sense of progression beyond a single endless mode and offering varied opening layouts to solve.
Mid-1990s Mac Shareware
Hexx is representative of the small, focused puzzle titles that flourished on the Mac in the System 7 era, distributed through online archives and shareware channels rather than retail.
