PolyMine is a classic Macintosh shareware puzzle game that reworks the familiar Minesweeper formula on non-rectangular, polyomino-style boards. Instead of the standard square grid, cells are arranged in alternative tilings that change how neighbors relate to one another, giving the deduction puzzle a fresh geometry.
Concept
The core loop is the same as Minesweeper: uncover safe cells, flag suspected mines, and use the numeric clues showing how many mines border each revealed cell. The twist is that the board is not a simple square grid, so adjacency and counting work differently.
Variants
PolyMine is part of a small family of poly-tiled Minesweeper variants for the classic Mac, distributed as shareware aimed at puzzle enthusiasts who had exhausted the stock game.
Platform
Targets the classic Mac OS era. Runs on 68k and PowerPC Macs through System 7 and Mac OS 8 / 9 on a standard color or grayscale display.
Distribution
Distributed as Macintosh shareware and preserved on community archives such as Macintosh Garden and Macintosh Repository.
