Unite is a 1991 two-player abstract strategy board game by Kevin Gong, derived from the classic Lines of Action concept. Players take turns sliding pieces across a grid, racing to be the first to connect every one of their stones into a single contiguous group, a deceptively simple goal that leads to deep tactical play.
Gameplay
Each turn a player moves one of their pieces in a straight line. The number of squares moved depends on how many pieces lie along that line. Captures, blockades and forced consolidation patterns drive the strategy.
Two-Player Focus
Unite is designed primarily as a hot-seat two-player contest, making it ideal for shared classic Mac sessions. Match length is short, encouraging rematches and incremental skill-building.
System and Compatibility
The game targets 68k Macintosh hardware running System 6.x through 7.6, and is reported to run cleanly under SheepShaver for modern emulation use.
Author
Released as freeware by Kevin Gong in 1991, Unite is part of the rich early-1990s vein of student- and hobbyist-authored Mac board game ports.
