Chello is a 1991 board game by James Preston that fuses two beloved abstract strategy classics into a single hybrid. Described simply as a mix of checkers and Othello, it asks players to balance the directional capture rules of draughts with the flip-the-flank reversal mechanics that made Reversi a perennial favorite.
Concept
The game blends checkers movement with Othello's piece-flipping capture, producing a board that constantly shifts color as territories are won and lost.
Era and Style
Released for the early 68k Macintosh, Chello fits squarely into the System 6 and 7 era of black-and-white desktop board games delivered as compact shareware.
Compatibility
Runs on System 6.x through System 7.6 on 68k Macintosh hardware and is compatible with the SheepShaver emulator for modern playback.
Distribution
Preserved on Macintosh Garden as part of the HolidayPack collection, packaged as Chello_1.1.sit.
