powerbook duo 2300c
I was looking at some pictures of Apple Display cards and noticed some has 512k soldered onboard + 2 slots for 2x256k upgrade, and some has 1MB onboard and no slot.
Can this display card be hacked to have full 1MB onboard and have 2x512k VRAM simms installed for 2MB total?

hi everybody,
i recently obtained a last series powerbook duo (100 mhz powerpc, 800 mb hd etc.). it has os 8.1 installed and runs decently. what i really like about it is the size, but alas when i looked at its ports it was plain horror.
it only has a modem and an i-don't-know-what port which has a pictogram of a telephone and a printer on it and is called (by the os) modem/printer port.
now i understand that it used to be inserted into a 'duo dock' but i do not know where to get one and even if i could i wouldn't want to only for the sake of ports.
can anybody help me how to get stuff (like a nice 7.6.1 and ram doubler) onto it? it has no floppy, no cd, no nothing..

If you have no dock for it, then your only option is LocalTalk (aka serial networking through the Printer/Modem port.)
In order to do that, you will *NEED* another Mac capable of running OS 9 or earlier that has a serial port. Then you can turn on File Sharing, and share files from the other Mac to the Duo.

Unfortunately, it is EXTREMELY difficult to swap out the OS over AppleTalk.

I kind of assumed that he (or she, you never know,) had a SCSI CD-ROM drive, but no dock to give SCSI to the Duo.
But, yeah, a 5300 doesn't have an internal CD-ROM drive, so to use any CDs, you'll need a SCSI CD-ROM drive for that 5300. But, the 5300 can take a PCMCIA Ethernet (or even WiFi) card, so you could have a horribly convoluted three-way sharing, if needed.
