Lode Runner Levels is a community-assembled level pack for the classic Macintosh editions of Lode Runner, the gold-gathering platform-puzzle game originally designed by Doug Smith and published by Broderbund in 1983. The pack collects classic and fan-authored boards into a form usable with the later Mac Lode Runner engines.
The original game
Lode Runner is a single-screen action-puzzler in which the player gathers gold piles, dodges patrolling guards, and uses a digging tool to trap pursuers in temporary holes through the platform structure.
Heritage levels
Many Mac level packs draw from the lineage of Championship Lode Runner and Revenge of Lode Runner, two Apple II follow-ups whose much harder boards became reference material for fan-made map sets.
Engine compatibility
Mac-side Lode Runner level files are typically loaded into Lode Runner: The Legend Returns or Lode Runner On-Line: The Mad Monks' Revenge, the two later Mac engines that accept third-party board groups.
