SILVERSCANNER 1 Software version 1.6 - 10/7/93 (If you are running a Silverscanner II, III, IV, DTP or Pro you will need version 3.0.1) The Silverscan line of LaCie scanners has been end-of-life for several years. This software has not been tested with newer operating systems or newer Macs. We hope that it will work in your environment, but cannot guarantee it. SETTING UP THE SCANNER • Power off the Macintosh and any external SCSI devices before connecting the scanner. • Remove the transportation screw before connecting the scanner to a power source. This screw secures the carriage mechanism and protects it from damage due to shock or vibration during transportation. Note: Do not discard the screw as you will need it when transporting the scanner. Place it in the hole provided on the back of the scanner. It does not screw in. • Attach the scanner document cover by holding the base of the cover and inserting the metal tongues into the slots at the rear of the scanner. • Place the scanner on a flat, horizontal, stable surface. Allow enough space above the scanner for easy document placement. • Connect the scanner to the computer. The scanner ships defaulted to SCSI ID 2 and terminated. See the instructions below to change. Turn the power to the scanner on and then boot the Mac. • If the scanner makes grinding noises, the shipping screw may be engaged. Turn the scanner off and unscrew or unlock the shipping screw. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION • From the Silverscan software, move the "Silverscan II" file located in the “For System Folder” to the Control Panel Folder of your System Folder. • You may also need to copy "32-Bit QuickDraw" into the System Folder if your Mac does not support 32 bit QuickDraw. This is indicated if the plugin modules fail to display a color image in the preview area. • NOTE: If you are upgrading from an earlier version of the Silverscan software, be sure to remove the old Silverscan Init file from the Extensions Folder within the System Folder on your startup volume. • Restart the Mac. One of the icons at startup should be the Silverscan icon. If it is finding the scanner it should have a rainbow of colors on the icon. If it is just grey (with a little green dot), it is not finding the scanner. Check the SCSI ID #, remove any other external SCSI devices and try again. • Move the "Silverscan PS" file located in the “For Photoshop” folder to the Plug-Ins folder in the Photoshop Folder. Copy only the Silverscan PS file - not the For Photoshop folder. • Launch Photoshop and go under File to Preferences to Plug-Ins or to Plug-Ins and Scratch Disk (it depends on the version of Photoshop). Highlight the Plug-Ins Folder (or the folder that the Silverscan PS was placed in). Do not open the folder. Select the folder. • Quit Photoshop and then re-launch.
