Startrail 2.0 Quick User Guide What is Startail? Startrail is a toy. It simply makes your mouse pointer shine in colored sparkles and creates shiny screen effects. This guide introduces you to Startrail features quickly, leaving to you the pleasure to discover the visual effects it creates. The Menus Startrail has a standard menu like all applications, plus a menu in the upper left corner of the screen to make its features and controls accessible any time you wish. The settings are all grouped in the preferences, but you can access two commands by the menus: pause and burst. Pause simply pauses the trail when it gets in the way of your work. The burst command releases a burst of particles even if the mouse pointer in not moving or the trail is paused, and it’s useful to locate the mouse pointer when you lose it. The Preferences The preferences panel is divided in three sections, to control different aspects of the application. General Preferences Here you can set different aspects of the application behaviour. • Launch Startrail at Login: makes Startrail launch every time you log in into your system. • Check for updates on startup: Startrail looks for newer versions each time it starts. • Mouse trail: enables or disables the trail that follows the mouse pointer. • Dock effect: enables or disables the effect Startrail displays each time you move the mose pointer over the dock • Mouse gestures: enables or disables effect associated to mouse gestures. The mouse gestures that activate an effect are the following (notice that you need to make these gestures ample and in the center of the screen: Fireworks Rain Fountain • Mouse sensitivity: sets the minimum mouse threshold that causes the trail to appear. It is useful to inibhit the trail on small mouse movements when you need to do precise works without having particles bursts on your way. Particles Preferences Here you can set the different parameters that affect each single particles. • Particles shape: the shape of the particles. • Rotation: the particles rotate while moving. • Fixed color: if you want a fixed color for your particles instead of the changing ones, you can choose one. • Color variation speed: if particles change color, this is the speed of this change. • Lifetime: the time the particles wil remain on screen. • Size: the maximum size of each particle. Trail Preferences Here you can set different parameters that affect the entire trail. • Particles number: the number of particles that compose the trail • Burst radius: the radius of the particle explosions that compose the trail • Wind: a left or right wind that blows particles away. • Gravity: gravity make particles fall down or, when inverted, to go up. • Continuous trail: the trail cintinues to show up also when the mouse pointer is still. As you can see, playing with …

StartupSound.prefPane 1.0 (v1.0.4) Release Notes Before Installation • If your computer doesn't start up normally after installing this software, please start up Mac OS X in Safe Mode and uninstall this software. If you don't know how to start up in Safe Mode, see Apple's technical document "Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode" <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393>. • Before installing this software, I recommend that you to back up your important data. • I welcome all feedback. Please send your E-mail to Arcana Research <arcana@xvf.biglobe.ne.jp> and include all information about your computer, which operating system you are using, what works or doesn't, suggestions, etc. Thank you for helping me make StartupSound.prefPane a better utility. What is StartupSound.prefPane? StartupSound.prefPane is the software which controls the volume of the startup sound of your Macintosh computer. StartupSound.prefPane mute the startup sound without changing the output volume setting. And StartupSound.prefPane limits the startup volume so that it may not become loud even if you make the output volume louder. To set up the startup volume, you select the "Startup Sound" pane added to the "System Preferences." System Requirements StartupSound.prefPane 1.0 requires a Mac with PowerPC processors running Mac OS X version 10.2 or later. I tested this software on the following systems: • Power Mac G4 Cube 450MHz and speakers / Mac OS X 10.4.4, 10.3.9, 10.2.8 and 10.2 • PowerBook G4 867MHz 12.1" / Mac OS X 10.4.4 For the latest news about StartupSound.prefPane, visit the website of Arcana Research at www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~arcana/index.en.html. Installing StartupSound.prefPane Double-click the "StartupSoundPrefPane.pkg" in the folder in which this document exists, and follow the instructions of the installer. To install this software, you need an administrator name and password. If StartupSound.prefPane is already installed on the computer running Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.3.1, You need to uninstall it before installation. Uninstalling StartupSound.prefPane Double-click the "Uninstaller" in the same folder in which this document exists, and follow the instructions of uninstaller. To uninstall this software, you need an administrator name and password. How to Use StartupSound.prefPane? When installation is completed, the volume of startup sound is set as the minimum value which is not mute. To change the volume of startup sound, log in as an administrator to your computer, open the "System Preferences" and click the "Startup Sound." Then drag the "Startup Volume" slider, or click the "Mute" checkbox to turn off the startup sound completely. Only an administrator can change the setting of "Startup Sound." About License Sta…
