INSTALLATION ON WINDOWS ======================= At this point, there is no installation to do other than unpacking. You'll also need Netscape or some other WWW browser for the external URL reference applet (this can be configured in "Preferences"). INSTALLATION ON MACINTOSH ========================= For some of its features, TeamWave requires that you have the Internet Config extension installed on your system. You should also have a web browser available, with Internet Config knowing about the web browser. For information on Internet Config, see: -1- http://www.share.com/peterlewis/ic/internetconfig.html INSTALLATION ON UNIX ==================== Since TeamWave comes as a pre-compiled binary for your system, installation is pretty straightforward. Make sure that the directory where you unpack TeamWave is in your Unix path. You'll also need Netscape or some other WWW browser for the external URL reference applet (this can be configured in "Preferences"). USING THE MAIN TEAMWAVE WORKPLACE CLIENT ======================================== To use TeamWave, run the main TeamWave Workplace client ("teamwave" on Unix, "teamwave.exe" on Windows, and "TeamWave Workplace" on Macintosh). You will be prompted for a server to connect to, and then a user name and password (as defined by the administrator using the admin client). Create a new room by choosing "Room | New" from the menu. Enter a room by clicking on it from the "Rooms on This Server" list. SETTING UP A SERVER =================== If you will be the person in your group responsible for running the TeamWave server, this will get you started. Full details on setting up a server are available in the Web documentation, which you should read. To start the server: 1) On Windows, run the "twserver" application. This runs as a console-mode application. 2) On Macintosh, launch the "TeamWave Server…

About Te c hTool TechTool is a handy utility which: • Rebuilds the desktop. Saves file and folder Get Info comments. • Zaps the PRA M • Tests for damaged system files • Properly cleans your floppy drive (with drive cleaning kit) • Displays system information about your Macintosh We lc om e to ve rs ion 1.1.7 of Te c hTool! This version of TechTool now covers the US and International versions of system 8 .1 and will test that system version for damage. A dded to version 1 .1 .5 of TechTool, and present in this version, is a feature many users have requested for years: You now have the option to save file and folder Get Info comments before clearing the desktop. This does add some time to the rebuild process however, since we must do a file scan on the disk drive(s) which are having their desktops rebuilt. When you use the Desktop Rebuild option, you'll be presented with a checkbox option which allows you to save file and folder Get Info comments. TechTool will then scan for and save the comments, clear the desktop, and relaunch allowing the finder to rebuild. A t this point, TechTool will reload and restore the comments it previously saved. Do remember that if you choose to save Get Info comments TechTool MUST restart your computer so that the restoration routine can be executed. It should be noted here that performing a desktop rebuild on MacOS 8 , regardless of whether you choose to save file comments or not, will require a restart of your computer. A pple's new MacOS 8 multithreaded Finder requires a restart for a clean rebuild. We think that this is a bug in the 8 .0 .0 version of the new Finder and that future updates of the new Finder will not require the restart. Stay tuned. A s of version 1 .1 .4 , TechTool now includes the drive cleaning routine that was employed in our DriveTech™ product. Using a standard 3 .5 " cleaning disk set, TechTool will properly clean your floppy drives. See the instructions below on how to use this new feature. If you have difficulty locating a disk cleaning kit, you can purchase them from MicroMat. See the SPECIA L menu for details. This new feature is pretty cool. If you don't have a cleaning disk handy, you can still check it out with a regular floppy disk. Just press the CLEA N button and then pop in the floppy disk, so you can see what happens. Yes...that is a technically accurate representation of your floppy drive! TechTool now includes a registration screen. Welcome to TeleScope! TeleScope is the newest, most flexible media management system available. With TeleScope you can track your multi-media files (images, graphics, QuickTime movies, digital sounds, etc.) intelligently, wherever they are on your network. This evaluation version of TeleScope gives you all the software required to see TeleScope's benefits for yourself. Before You Begin... There are a couple of things you'll need to know before starting to work with this evaluation: WARNING!! The evaluation installer that you are about to use will OVERWRITE any ODBC preferences you currently have. If you are not currently using ODBC for other products on your Mac, then you don't need to worry about this, and should proceed. If you ARE using ODBC, however, and want to save your existing ODBC data sources, drag the following file: "System Folder:Preferences:ODBC Preferences PPC" into a safe place BEFORE running this installer. Once you have moved this file, you should proceed with the installation of the TeleScope evaluation. 1: You will be connecting to North Plains' Evaluation Database over the Internet This means that, for this evaluation to work properly, you will need to have a connection to the internet. A dial-up connection is fine, although transfer rates over a 28.8 modem are a little slow. On most Macintoshes, TeleScope Viewer will automatically start your modem's dial-up process if you aren't already connected via modem. If you have a direct internet connection (through your network at work, for example), this does not apply to you. 2: You will need a user name and password As you are connecting to the North Plains Evaluation Database, you will be asked for a user name and password. There is a special user defined in our Evaluation Database, with the user name "demo" and the password "demo" (without the quotation marks) that you can use for connecting to the database. 3: You will be able to add your own files (images, graphics, etc.) to our database That's right, you can place your own image files into the public North Plains Evaluation Database. To prevent possible misuse of this feature, any files you add will go into a special "in-box" that will be reviewed daily by North Plains, and made publicly available. This means that, although you will be able to see files you have just added to the database, nobody else will until they are made public, and if you do another "find" in the database, your newly-added files will not show up. 4: The "demo" user has been assigned limited privileges. Because the files in the database are not royalty-free, the demo user (which you use to log in with), has been assigned no editing and downloading privileges. This means that, essentially, the demo database is a browse-only database. If you would like to have a personal user name assigned to you that has more privileges enabled, please contact North Plains Systems Inc. at the address above.
