Zone Warrior version 2.0 Manual Background The year is 2100 AD and human civilization is about to reach the capability to develop interstellar travel. A nearby alien race doesn't like the idea and so it attacks. All the stations are part of the development of the interstellar projects. Our Side Space Stations have three basic designs. The largest and most populated are the ‘wheel’ design. These represent the most developed locations in the solar system. The ‘radial’ design represents up and coming locations while the ‘dumb-bell’ design are research outposts. Wheel Space Stations can be found orbiting Earth, Mars, Europa and Titan. The design consists of a docking bay in the central hub, four spokes and twelve sections in the habitat ring. These sections may become targets for the alien invaders. Radial Space Stations can be found orbiting Venus, Ganymede and Rhea. The design consists of a docking bay in the central core, and four habitat sections. These sections may become targets for the alien invaders. There is also additional specialist equipment attached to the central core. Dumb-bell Space Stations can be found orbiting Mercury, Pallas, Io, Callisto, Iapetus, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. The design consists of a docking bay in the central core, and two habitat sections. These sections may become targets for the alien invaders. There is also additional specialized research equipment attached to the central core. Docking All 3 space station designs are equipped with a tractor beam for automatic docking. Generally, the tractor beam will only function when its station is undamaged. If a station should be damaged from an alien assault, the tractor beam will most certainly be out of commission. In such a case, manual docking will be necessary and a docking buoy will be launched from the bay. The docking buoy serves as a marker it allows you to get your craft in a direct line with the docking bay. Colliding with the buoy will automatically kill your engines. Shuttlecraft are light assault/jump (AJ) fighters with laser weapons, missiles, inelastic shields, maneuvering drive and punctuated warp engines. Perhaps not the most impressive and modern fighter -- nonetheless, for tight proximity fighting, it's high maneuverability serves it well in the defense of the station. The Shuttlecraft has twin forward-firing laser weapons of medium range and guided missiles. The lasers can vaporize most light craft with only a few hits. The missiles most certainly will vaporize all light craft. For defense, the Shuttlecraft has inelastic proximity shields. They adsorb missile and laser impacts (some kinetic collision impacts) and recharge off the ships main power supply. If you begin to get low of fuel there will be an audio alert and flashing lights on your fuel gauge. To refuel in-flight you must fly into one of the free floating fuel cells positioned near the station. Interplanetary Freighters carry…

Zoom for Mac OS X Written by Andrew Hunter (andrew@logicalshift.co.uk) Available for distribution under the terms of the GNU GPL Source is available from http://www.logicalshift.co.uk/unix/zoom/ Binaries from http://www.logicalshift.co.uk/unix/zoom/ This is the binary distribution of Zoom for Mac OS X. Zoom is a Z-Code interpreter - it plays games designed for the Z-Machine (originally designed by Infocom circa 1979). Modern games are still being produced and are available from http://www.ifarchive.org. Zoom is licenced under the GPL: this means two things: - NO WARRANTY - If you distribute Zoom, you must also make the source code available. The source code is available from http://www.logicalshift.co.uk/unix/zoom/ This version is distributed with binary versions of the TADS, Glulx and Hugo runtimes. These are licensed and distributed under different terms than Zoom itself. A copy of the GPL is attached at the end of this file. Using Zoom Zoom can identify games it can play either by filetype or by file extension. Z- Code games either have the 'ZCOD' file type or a .z[x] extension (where [x] is 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 - eg curses.z5). Once the Finder has 'seen' the Zoom application, you will be able to launch games simply by double-clicking on them. You can also launch games by launching Zoom and choosing them from the file open dialog box that appears. Features The Mac OS X version of Zoom is by far the most feature-complete version of Zoom available. It provides the following features: - Full support for the Z-Machine as defined by the Z-Machine specification version 1.0/1.1 draft 6 - Timed input - Multiple fonts - Font 3 - Mouse - Support for version 6, including pictures and the mouse - Text input history - Scrollback - Dynamic window resizing and font changing - Speech output - Quickdraw or Quartz rendering (the Quartz rendering is somewhat experimental, but looks a lot better than Quickdraw...) - The finder can be used to launch both games and saved game files Some of these features need to be switched on - see the preferences window within Zoom to do this. Note that Zoom is fairly liberal in how it lets you up the fonts. This can cause the display to look a bit odd, particularily if you changed the settings of the fixed fonts. In order to make things look correct, you must choose fixed-width fonts for the fixed styles (such as Courier) and make sure that they are all the same size. It appears that some ostensibly fixed width fonts have some slight variation that can lead to a slightly off display: there isn't much you can do about this, except choose a different font. Zoom has support for Unicode output and input, but the interface to the Quartz text renderer from Carbon doesn't, so this won't work if Quartz rendering is being used. Unicode input is also a bit crufty in places. Thanks These people have contributed to this version of Zoom. They hav…
