iPiece 1.2 Thank you for trying iPiece by Old Jewel Software. iPiece will show a magnifier window right next to your cursor. Whenever you want to see things closer, double- click the eyeglasses icon in the menu bar and iPiece’s magnifier will appear. When you’re done with the magnifier, double-click the icon again and it will disappear until you want it back. System Requirements: iPiece requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later to run. It should work on any Macintosh that will support Mac OS X 10.4; however, iPiece makes use of OpenGL, so a Macintosh with a graphics card capable of supporting Quartz Extreme will be able to use iPiece much more ef- fectively. Installing iPiece: To install iPiece: • Mount the disk image labeled "iPiece". • In the disk window that appears, drag the icon labeled "iPiece" to the icon labeled “Applications” and let go. • If you want, you can move iPiece to any other folder on your hard drive. It will work from anywhere. • Eject the disk image labeled “iPiece”. Uninstalling iPiece: To uninstall iPiece: • Click the iPiece icon in the menu bar to show the settings win- dow if it’s not yet visible. • Click the button labeled “Quit” to quit iPiece. • Drag the iPiece icon to the trash. Starting iPiece: To run iPiece, simply double-click its icon in the Applica- tions folder. An icon of a pair of eyeglasses will appear immediately in the menu bar. This icon is how you will control iPiece. Turning On Magnification: To turn on the magnifier window: • Start iPiece if it hasn’t started already. • Double-click the iPiece icon in the menu bar. iPiece’s magnification window will appear. Whatever is directly under the mouse will appear magnified in a win- dow nearby. As you move the mouse around, the magni- fier will follow the mouse, so whatever is under the mouse is always magnified right beside it. Turning Off Magnification: When you’re done using the magnifier, it’s very simple to turn it off until you need it again. To turn off the magnifier: • Double-click the iPiece icon in the menu bar. The magnifier will disappear. The next time you want to use it, just double-click the iPiece icon in the menu bar again. Using the Hot Keys: If you prefer to use your keyboard to control iPiece, then you can ignore the icon in the menubar and instead use globally defined hot keys. By default, you can toggle iPiece on and off using the hot key shift-control-Z. To turn on the magnifier using the keyboard: • Hold down the control and shift keys while pressing the Z key. The magnifier will appear beside the cursor. To turn the magnifier back off using the keyboard: • Hold down the control …

Scrobbler FAQ Why does iScrobbler use so much memory? First off, the only memory number that can even get close to the actual memory used by iScrobbler is "Private Memory Size" (RPRVT), any other stat includes virtual memory (not actually backed by allocated physical memory) and/or shared library memory (not directly used by iScrobbler). See the Memory FAQ in the next post for more info. Having said that... For version 2.0 and later, large memory use will likely be do to the Local Charts data. It's the price paid for all the fancy stats the data can give you. As an upper limit, iScrobbler will use half the private memory used by iTunes. That should be a rare case though. The only way to reduce memory use is to disable the data collection using a hidden pref. In addition, iScrobbler 2 comes in a 64bit Intel flavor for Leopard and Core 2 users. This is the default binary for those systems and should run faster than the 32bit binary. However, it will also use 20%-30% more memory than the 32bit binary of iScrobbler. *************** 64-bit Note: It is completely normal for a 64bit app to have a 3+GB VM size. Again, the VM stat means next to nothing. *************** For version 1.5.x and earlier large memory use is usually because of the Album artwork cache. You can override the default cache limit using a hidden pref, or turn off the cache in the preferences. All versions of iScrobbler have been tested with a memory leak detector and there are no known memory leaks. Why does iScrobbler use so much CPU time? Again, this is the 2.0 and later Local Charts data gathering. The initial iTunes library import can use 80-90% of one CPU (or core) for many hours. After that, there will be spikes in CPU usage as songs are played or when chart maintenance is performed (every night at midnight, and every Sunday at noon GMT). Note: Leopard is about twice as fast as Tiger when operating on the chart data and the 64bit iScrobbler is even faster. What do the various menu colors represent? Orange = OS X thinks your local network connection is not available. All tracks will be queued and no submission will be attempted until OS X recognizes a valid network connection. Green = iScrobbler is attempting to submit one or more tracks. Red = The submission attempt failed. All tracks will be queued. Further attempts will be made until the submission is successful. Black = No submission has been made, or the last submission attempt succeeded. For Orange and Red colors, you can hover your mouse over the menu and a tool tip will appear with a more detailed explanation of the problem. Alternatively, you can open the Statistics window for the same information. Menu Note glyphs: Barred eighth notes: Tracks will be submitted. Sharp note (or number symbol): Tracks will not be submitted. Why doesn't the menu work? If the menu won't open when you click on the notes, the problem is you have Hide checked for the iScrobbler Login Item. If the menu opens when you click on th…

It includes a download manager, featuring retries and resumable downloads. It also features AutoSearch , which maintains a list of those elusive files that you want and can never find online, doggedly retries them everytime you use iSwipe until they are complete. Important Notice HillmanMinx Software does not condone or encourage any form of copyright infringement. iSwipe simply endeavours to search and download files from the internet, many of which are copyright free and legally downloadable . We do not maintain any lists of files, or store any content on our servers, create or maintain any file sharing networks. iSwipe simply connects to and downloads from whatever networks are available. If you inadvertenty download copyrighted files to which you suspect you are not entitled, you must delete them immediately. Introduction There are literally billions of files available for download on the 'internet'. However, most are not on the 'web', as such, but on various kinds of other networks. Some networks are server based like Hotline and Carracho, some are distributed, like Gnutella, and some are hybrids like OpenNapster and FastTrack. Let iSwipe do the hard work and search and download from all of them (even at the same time)! Hotline has millions of files online at any given time. iSwipe allows you to search and download from Hotline servers, and will keep retrying servers that are down until the file is retrieved. Large file transfers which are interrupted, are automatically resumed (even days after). The Carracho network is not as big as Hotline, but still has many files available. Whilst the original Napster service has been defunct for some time, some OpenNapster servers often have several million files online at any given time. iSwipe logs onto the as many OpenNapster networks as possible and regularly gives access to over 20 million files. The first true peer-to-peer network, Gnutella Gnutella, has matured over the past few years, and each sub-network often has over a million files online. iSwipe searches seve…

iTunes 2 FAQ Overview Q. What are the benefits of digitizing and organizing my music collection on my computer? A. Just as the popularity of compact disc technology revolutionized the way that songs were stored and enjoyed through the ’80s and ’90s, the personal computer is fast becoming a favorite new choice for collecting and experiencing music today. Building a personal digital music library on your computer allows you to store hundreds of CDs in one convenient place, using a high-quality and efficient compression format called MP3. An application like iTunes gives you instant access to all your music, so you don’t have to search through stacks of CDs to find a specific song. And unlike CDs, which store only a song’s track number, MP3s generated by iTunes automatically contain detailed information, including the song name, artist, album, genre, year recorded, and more. Music stored on your computer’s hard drive provides a level of flexibility that has never before existed. In a few seconds, you can easily create playlists of your favorite music in the order that you want to hear it, allowing you to mix and match songs from different artists and albums. Playlists can be saved, rearranged, and revisited as often as you like, and can be transferred to a portable MP3 player or burned on a CD for tunes to go. Q. How do I “rip” music from my CDs onto my hard drive? A. Music on audio CDs is stored in an uncompressed digital format that retains full recording quality. Using iTunes, you can convert, or “rip,” tracks into the MP3 format, which compresses the size of the file for more efficient storage. To rip files in iTunes, simply insert a music CD into your CD drive and iTunes automatically looks up the album on an Internet database to retrieve artist, album, and track information. The songs will appear in your iTunes window, and you can select which ones you want to convert to MP3 and click Import. iTunes encodes those tracks into MP3 format and automatically adds them to your music library.1 Q. What is MP3? A. MP3 is short for Moving Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3. It is the best-known of the digital audio formats and has been adopted by Internet users as the de facto standard for compressed music. The files can be compressed at different rates, but the less they are compressed, the better they sound. The default compression setting for iTunes is 160 kilobits per second (Kbps), which yields extremely high-fidelity music but is still compact enough to fit many songs onto most portable…
