pcSetup 2.1.7 Installation Guide Version 6, August 29, 2000 Copyright © 2000 Fraser Valley Distributed Computing Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Discovery Software Limited, All rights reserved Introduction Thank you for purchasing the latest edition of pcSetup. PcSetup 2.1.7 is the third version that has been specifically designed for use with Windows 95/98. It corrects many of the problems experienced under pcSetup 2.0. and pcSetup 2.0.1 New Features of 2.1.7: • A message passing system that allows information to be transferred directly from Windows to the Mac, bypassing DOS altogether. This creates a faster, more stable flow of information. • A 32-bit hard drive controller for increased speed and performance. • A 32-bit CD-ROM drive controller, which will support long filenames. Requirements: The installation of pcSetup 2.1.7 takes a little time but is quite easy. You must have pcSetup 1.6.4 or 2.0 and Windows 95B(OSR2) or Windows 98 already installed on your computer.(pcSetup 1.6.4 is available to download free of charge at - http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n10766) To determine which version of Windows you are running see the F.A.Q of the installation guide. Note: pcSetup 2.1.7 is not compatible with Windows NT or Windows 2000. PcSetup does not support Windows 95A. Warning * This software will not function without a valid authorization code. If you try to run the windows drivers with the Mac 1.6.4 drivers your PC will crash.* Copyright © 2000 Fraser Valley Distributed Computing Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Discovery Software Limited, All rights reserved Installing pcSetup 2.1 .7 *If upgrading from pcSetup 2.0, the CD-ROM, hard disk, and floppy disk Controllers must be removed before proceeding with 2.1.7 installation.* Download the two driver files for pcSetup 2.1.7 from the Host Web Browser (www.pcSetup2x.com). Once downloaded, the driver files should appear on your Mac desktop. Copy the Windows pcSetup 2.1.7 driver files (named pcSetup 2.1.7.exe ) to a floppy disk. There are two steps to the installation process of pcSetup 2.1.7: the Macintosh installation, which must be done first, and then the DOS installation. To Install on The Mac Side: 1- Make sure that pcSetup1.6.4 or 2.0 is installed. (pcSetup 1.6.4 is available at http://asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n10766) 2- Click on the newly created Mac driver file icon on your Mac desktop and follow the installation procedure. To Install on The DOS Side: 1- Ensure that pcSetup 1.6.4 or 2.0 and Windows 95B/98 are installed. 2- Insert the floppy disk with the Windows driver files (pcSetup 2.1.7.exe) on it into the floppy disk drive and follow the installation procedure. 3- To complete the installation of pcSetup 2.1.7, you must install the hard disk driver manually using “Add new Hardware” wizard in the Device Manager D…

TeleScope Design Documentation Editorial Info File Format Revision 1.0 July 2, 1996 Table of Contents 1. Overview .................................................................................................................... 1 2. Data Format............................................................................................................... 2 i TeleScope Design Documentation Editorial Info File Format 1. Overview This document describes a data format used in two places in the TeleScope system: 1) Within the “•Editorial Info” files used by the TeleScope Engine in monitored folders, where the data described in this document is stored in the data fork of the file 2) Within the jobs table in the TeleScope database, where the data described in this document is stored in the job_data column. The purpose of this data format is to describe, in a simple, text-only format, the contents of the editorial information which can be stored with a document imported into the TeleScope database. The TeleScope Engine uses this data from the “•Editorial Info” file in folders it is monitoring to provide constant information for files it will import from the folder. Other TeleScope software uses this data in the jobs table of the TeleScope database to simplify data entry in editorial dialogs by providing a popup menu of named “job” information from which the user can select to pre-fill the fields in the dialog. 1 TeleScope Design Documentation Editorial Info File Format 2. Data Format The editorial info format is a simple text stream consisting of 15 text fields, with each field being terminated by a field terminator character (ascii 0x03). Each of the text fields represents the contents of one of the fields in the editorial information dialog. The fields are in the following order: Field Max. Length Notes country 31 state 31 city 31 transmission name 31 transmission service 31 paper clip 8 The text in this field will be a numeric string, and must be converted into a number before being shown in the dialog, or stored in the TeleScope database. category 9 sub-categories 255 short description 255 user notes 255 keywords 255 The text in this field will be a list of words separ…

. . . . .. ' ... " - . ~ "" • • The Stars of Opportunity by Neil Shapiro My father is ajeweler famous throughout the Far Arm for precious settings. He can bring out the luster of a Denbian Zil pearl or gather in the light from a Sigurian flame diamond and send it in bright bursts to the eyes of a dazzled beholder. My family's been in the jewelry business for years, and my father dreamed ofa time when his only child would join him in the workshop, learning how to fashion cabochons and necklaces. But I wanted none of it - I wanted to go into space. This nearly broke my father's heart, but he supported me in a future he could not imagine for himself. He even paid my entry into the Merchant Guild. And many's the night he would indulge me in my fascination with space. He always found the time to stand with me in the Arcturian twilight as I peered through my telescope and regaled him with obscure facts about the Far Arm. On one such night, I centered the scope so that the star Deneb shone in the middle of the field. "This is the home of the Duchess Avenstar," I said, moving away from the telescope so father could look. "Deneb used to be the wildest system in the Far Arm - the place used to be swarming with pirates. She tamed it, she and her Imperial Guards- men. Now only the Scarlet Brotherhood dares ap- proach. And even they think twice about it." Father looked up from the eyepiece and shifted restlessly from foot to foot on the hard, pebble- strewn ground of our estate, but I continued. 1 "Avenstar's as tough as her cousin, Emperor 0000 Hiathra, was in his prime. But unlike the Emperor, Avenstar is genuinely concerned about her people. Now, adrift in space, my comrades gone, 1 That's because she's blessed with psionic ability and stare blankly at the main viewscreen of my small knows their innermost needs. 1 wonder if that is scout vessel. truly a blessing... but here, look again." "I hold stars in my hand every Then, he might understand what drove me here. day - you dream about those you can never touch ..." Sighing, he bent over the telescope once again, but 1 0000 saw him shoot a guilty look toward…
