Atlantis User Manual Atlantis User Manual - 1 Basic Guide This guide should outline the major features for Atlantis and get you started as quickly as possi- ble. It will touch upon most features of Atlantis, but mostly only enough to get you started and on your way. 1. Overview [[ Why Atlantis was created. Who it’s for. A description of what a Mu* is. A note on code stan- dards, such as <foo>. and Menu->Menu->Etc. ]] 2. Installing Atlantis Right now, installing Atlantis involves opening the disk image and moving the program from the disk image to anywhere on your hard drive, or running it right from the disk image (not sug- gested). If you are copying Atlantis between machines, be sure to copy the folder from Library/ Application Support/Atlantis with the application, which contains all the world and macro information created in the application. If you’re interested in getting the show on the road, you can skip down to “6. Address Book”. 3. General Preferences The general preferences can be found at Atlantis->Preferences…->General. As of this writing it includes version checking and FugueEdit support. Information about FugueEdit can be found at <<FOO>>, but is not normally necessary to get started. 4. World Defaults The World Defaults are those items used as the template for every world you create in Atlantis and can be found under Atlantis->Preferences…->World Defaults. Sometimes a global (or other setting) might not seem to take effect right away. You will need to close the window, change tabs, or select another item before they take effect. (In computer jar- gon terms, the selected item must lose focus before it’s saved.) 4.1 Formatting The Formatting tab shows the basic text style and colors available. The “Use defaults” check- boxes are unavailable because you’re defining them here. 4.1.1 Font This Lets you choose the default font. I personally suggest only using a fixed-width font, which allows text output to be nice and neat, but you can take your pick. Atlantis User Manual - 2 4.1.2 Color Mapping There are three groups of color in this section. ANSI: The bulk of these options, numbered 00 through 15, are ANSI colors, which are used on some games to highlight or add some color. The first row is how the color would nor- mally be seen, and the second row is the color’s “intense” mode (which might explain why normal white is a little gray). Atlantis uses 00 for the default background and 07 for normal text. You may have to tell the game you’ve connected to that you can accept ANSI colors before you see more than 00 (black) and 07 (white). Console Messages: These are messages sent by Atlantis itself and are preceded with %%. URLs / Links: Atlantis will detect web pages and other links and show them with this color. 4.1.3 Indenting Sometimes a line is too long to fit in the window, in whic…

READ ME for Atom in a Box v1.0 by Dean Dauger What is Atom in a Box? Atom in a Box is an application that aids in visualizing the Hydrogenic atomic orbitals, a prime and otherwise unwieldy example of quantum mechanics. Unlike other tools in this category, this program raytraces through a three-dimensional cloud density that represents the wavefunction's probability density and presents its results in real-time (up to 48 frames per second on the latest hardware). The user interface is very interactive and provides a wide degree of flexibility. It contains all 140 eigenstates up to the n=7 energy level and the allowed spectral transitions between those eigenstates. It also allows a state formed by a superposition of up to eight of those eigenstates allowing for over 3 trillion possible states. The program can display a wavefunction as a picture of a cloud, use color as phase, plot in red-cyan left/right for 3D glasses, and slice the wavefunction. How do I use Atom in a Box? The bottom line is: PLAY WITH IT! Go ahead and try anything your heart desires. Most Macintosh users skip manuals anyway, and the program displays help text and help balloons for almost all items in the window. This Read Me is meant for those who want more details about the program but is not required reading. What are Orbitals? "Orbital" is the name given to the state of an electron bound to an atomic nucleus, analogous to the orbit a planet occupies around a star. The primary differences are that the orbital is described by Quantum Mechanics and the interaction is electromagnetism. Special states, called eigenstates, have been found that, when properly summed together, can describe any allowed state of the electron bound to the nucleus. By definition, they cannot -1- be written in terms of one another (i.e., they are said to be "orthogonal"). These eigenstates have their own unique labels. The first refers to the energy of the eigenstate, labeled by n. n can be any integer starting at one, the lowest energy level, then two, three, and so on for higher energies. Within an energy level, there are certain allowed distinct states of angular momentum which are identified by two integers, l and m. l, which identifies how much angular momentum the eigenstate has, ranges from zero to n-1. m, which identifies how much of that angular momentum is in the +z-direction, ranges from negative l to positive l. These three integers together uniquely identify every possible eigenstate, and are often written together in a Dirac ket: |n,l,m>. This code contains parameters for all the eigenstates up to n=7, which is the energy level for the highest energy electrons in the Uranium atom. That makes a total of 140 orthogonal eigenstates. For each eigenstate, the code computes its wavefunction, a complex function of position. The …

The Atomic Mac™ Atomic PC™ Atomic Penguin™ Version 6.5.0 August 1, 2006 Note: This documentation refers to the program as “Atomic Mac”, but is also valid for the Atomic PC and Atomic Penguin, except as noted. Introduction The Atomic Mac is a Periodic Table of the Elements. It runs under MacOS 9, Mac OSX, Windows, and Linux. The price to buy your copy is only $24.99. Until you buy, you will only be able to look at data for a few selected elements. When you first launch the Atomic Mac, you see a normal presentation of the periodic table of the elements. If you place the cursor over an element for a few seconds, you'll see the name of the element pop up. [Except in Windows/Linux] Clicking on one of the elements brings up a window that contains detailed information about that element. You can also open the text list of elements (from the Windows menu) to get an alphabetical list of elements. Double click on one to open the detailed view window for that element. There are six different sets of detailed information you can display, selected from the tabs in the window. They are: Physical View - a list of physical properties, such as density, melting point, etc. Isotopes View - a list of all isotopes for this element, showing the atomic mass, decay mode, half life, and percent natural abundance. If there are too many isotopes to fit in the window, then you can scroll down the list. Isotope Detail View Clicking on an isotope will bring up the another window, with detailed information, such as the number of protons and neutrons, atomic mass, mass excess, binding energy, natural abundance, decay mode and half life, nuclear spin, magnetic moment, and alpha and beta radiation energies. (Not all information is available for all isotopes) In addition, possible parent nuclides are also listed, as well as the daughter product. Gamma Rays Clicking on the Gammas tab will bring up a window listing all of the gamma rays that occur in at least 0.1% of transitions. Decay Tree Clicking on the Decay tab will display the path taken by the nuclide as it and daughter products decay, until they become stable. This view is of course only useful for radioactive nuclides. Ions View - a listing of the crystal and ionic radii for various ions and coordination numbers. Radii data are in Angstroms. Shells View - a graphical display of the atom, showing the electron shells, along with the electronic configuration. X-Ray View - A list of the K and L shell fluorescence energies, and K, L, M, and N shell binding energies. Clicking n the Photon Attenuation button will bring up a window showing the attenuation graph, while clicking on the Photon Attenuation Table button will bring up a tabular form of the same data. The information is based on the McMaster data. Clicking on the Photon Data button will bring up an interactive window, allow you to display the relevant dat…

Mac Audio Toolbox Version 1.8.0 October 30, 2005 Mac Audio Toolbox is an audio function generator for the Macintosh. Using no additional hardware, you can produce sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth waveforms of any frequency up to 22 kHz, as well as generate noise. In addition, there is a sweep generator. In addition, the Mac OS X version features oscilloscope and spectrum displays. The purchase price is only $19.99. You can generate up to 13 different waveforms. Each waveform can be routed to either the left or right channel, or to both. The amplitude of each waveform may be adjusted, as well as the volume on each channel, which is a mix of any waveforms routed to that channel. Please be sure to read this document before using the program, you will probably find the answers to any questions you may have. If you still have a question, feel free to contact us at support@blackcatsystems.com Function Generator When the program starts up, you'll see two windows. One window is similar to the following, it's the function generator window: Let's take a look at the various controls and features: For each waveform, there are six controls: Enabled If this is checked, the waveform is enabled for generation. Typing control-command-0 through 9, A, B, C will turn a generator on or off when this window is selected. Type This popup menu selects the type of waveform to be generated Freq This is a text box into which you type the desired waveform frequency, in hertz (Hz). Left When checked, this waveform is routed to the left channel. Right When checked, this waveform is routed to the right channel. Amplitude This is a text box into which you type the desired amplitude of the waveform, ranging from 0 (off) to 100 (maximum). In addition, there are two sliders, one each for the left and right channels. They adjust the output volume for each channel. There is also a bar graph volume display for each channel. Note that the volume display is only affected by the various waveforms fed to that channel, not by the volume slider for that channel, since that volume adjustment is applied after the Mac's D/A output. As you add more waveform to a channel, the overall gain of that channel is automatically adjusted, to prevent clipping. Please note that due to the limited bandwidth of the Mac's audio output, square and sawtooth waveforms will show significant overshoot. This is a function of the Mac's hardware, and cannot be overcome by software. You can Save your current settings, and restore them later, by using the Save and Open selections under the File menu. Sweep Generator The second window is the sweep generator: The Enabled, Left, and Right controls and the Amplitude work just as with the function generator window. The Start and End values are the two frequencies between which the generator will sweep. The Rate is the sweep rate, in Hz per second. By selecting Reverse, the sweep generator will sweep the frequency back t…
