BBEdit HTML Grabber Extension Version 1.0, July 10, 1996 by Dan Crevier <mailto:dan@rhino.harvard.edu> Introduction This is a BBEdit extension that allows you grab HTML documents from web (http) servers. It requires BBEdit 3.5 and an internet connection with MacTCP or OpenTransport. The BBEdit HTML Grabber Extension is freeware. Usage Choosing the “Grab HTML…” command from the Internet menu brings up a dialog that lets you specify the URL of the document you want to get. This should be a standard HTTP URL, such as: http://rhino.harvard.edu/dan/home.html If you hold down option, it will skip the dialog use the current selection as the URL. The results are presented in a new window. Most web servers return a header with each document that specifies information about the document. If the include headers option is selected, this information will be included. The extension is scriptable with the following dictionary: grab HTML: Retrieves an HTML document from a web server grab HTML string -- URL to HTML document [header boolean] -- Return document header? (defaults to false) Result: string -- HTML text Acknowledgements Thanks to Rich Siegel, John Daub, and Eric Scouten. Release Notes Version 1.0 — 7/13/96 • First public release Dan Crevier <mailto:dan@rhino.harvard.edu> <http://rhino.harvard.edu/dan/home.html>

BBEdit Lite Quickstart.txt About BBEdit Lite ===== ====== ==== BBEdit Lite 4.1 is a freeware derivative of BBEdit 4.5, the popular and critically acclaimed text and HTML editor for Web authors, programmers, on-line-service users, and anyone else who needs to edit plain-text files. BBEdit Lite is shipped with this QuickStart document which describes many of the application's features. Please note that this file is the only documentation available for BBEdit Lite. Full documentation, as well as a considerable amount of additional functionality, is available with the purchase of BBEdit 4.5. See the document "How do I order BBEdit 4.5" for details on obtaining your own copy of BBEdit. We are committed to providing continued support for BBEdit Lite by responding to individual questions and inquiries, as well as in providing fixes for Lite, and improvements in its functionality. We will announce any future changes or updates to Lite via the comp.sys.mac.* newsgroups, as well as by providing information and downloadable versions on our Web and ftp sites. We regret that we cannot offer telephone or fax support for BBEdit Lite; if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions regarding Lite, please send us email at <support@barebones.com>. Overview ======== BBEdit Lite Capabilities ------ ---- ------------ BBEdit Lite offers a great deal of useful functionality: * Powerful multi-file search. BBEdit Lite offers the usual multi-file search, in which a disk directory is scanned and the files are opened one at a time; however, BBEdit Lite can also display the search results in a window for easy browsing (and selected entries in the window can be opened for display). The search can also be limited to files that are already opened for editing, or to files which were already found in a previous multi-file search. BBEdit Lite also offers multi-file replace capability for automated "search and destroy" operations. * File size limited only by available memory. BBEdit Lite's default partition size is 1221K (only 650K with VM or RAMDoubler) of RAM. This can be set as low as 450K, to make BBEdit Lite the ideal constantly-resident editor for small to moderate tasks, or turned up as high as necessary to edit many large files or perform large-scale search-and-replace operations. BBEdit Lite automatically takes advantage of available system memory, so that you don't have to adjust its partition size to edit large files. * No hard limit on number of files open. The number of files that BBEdit Lite can have open at once is limited by available memory, and can be increased or decreased by adjusting BBEdit Lite's partition size as appropriate. * Easy manipulation of multiple files at once. The "Open Several..." command makes it possible to open multiple files from different folders at once, and the Save and Print commands can operate on all open files…

BBEdit Notes Page 1 of 8 Printed: Thursday, August 4, 2022 1:51:18 PM Before using BBEdit, you should be comfortable with using a word processor (such as MacWrite), or some other text editor. GENERAL INFORMATION BBEdit is a multiple-document text editor; you can have an arbitrarily large number of windows open, with each window containing a different document. The number of documents you can open at once is limited only by available memory; the maximum size of each document is likewise dependent on available memory. BBEdit supports editing features such as a changeable tab width and automatic indentation, and offers convenience features such as en-masse Save, Close, and Print commands, and the ability to print in a font and size other than the font and size used when editing - for example, you can edit a document in the Monaco font, 9 point size, but you may wish to print it out using the Courier 6 point font in order to minimize paper usage. BBEdit works in fairly traditional fashion; in the interests of brevity and minimal obfuscation, only those features unique to BBEdit are described in following sections. CREATING AND OPENING DOCUMENTS New editing windows can be created by choosing "New" from the File menu; newly created windows are stacked down and to the left, and are set up for editing in Monaco 9. To open an existing text file, use the "Open" or "Open Several" commands from the File menu. The "Open Several" dialog box allows you to open many files from different disks and folders. The left half of the dialog behaves in much the same fashion as a traditional Open box, except for the addition of the "Add" and "Add All" buttons. To dismiss the dialog, click the "Cancel" button on the right half of the dialog, or the "Done" button, which is next to it. Instead of dimissing the dialog, double-clicking on a file adds it to the list on the right half of the dialog. This list is the list of files to be opened; you can add a file to it by double-clicking the file, pressing the Return or Enter keys, or clicking the "Add" button. If a folder is selected, the "Add" button becomes the "Open" button, and clicking the "Open" button or double-clicking the folder opens the folder. The "Remove" button can be used to remove selected files from the list of files to be opened. Files in this list can be selected by clicking on their names; Shift-clicking extends the selection to consecutive files, and Command-clicking allows you to select files out of order. The "Add All" button will add all files in the current folder to the list of files to be opened. When you click the "Done" button, all files on the list will be opened, provided that there is enough available memory to open them all. You can also open files in BBEdit by selecting their icons in the Finder and choosing "Open" under the Finder's "File" menu. Of you open documents create…

Better Bookmark HTTP in MSIE © Michael Schürig 1997, 1998 What's new in version 1.0.1? There are no new features. This version is for use with “Dialog Director” v0.7. Don't install it if you're still using DD v0.6. What is it? An “Action” for Apple Data Detectors that acts on HTTP URLs. In contrast to the action that comes with “Internet Address Detectors” this one gives you the opportunity to add your own label and a description to the URL. Also URLs you bookmark are available from the Favorites menu immediately. Requirements - Mac OS 8 - Apple Data Detectors (included with Internet Address Detectors) - The free “Dialog Director” Scripting Addition. You can get it at <http://www.hylight.demon.co.uk/>. - Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.01 or newer. Installation First install the Dialog Director Scripting Addition. Put it into the “Scripting Additions” folder inside your System Folder. Open the folder “Apple Data Detectors” in your System Folder. There you will find a folder “Actions”. If there is a file “Bookmark HTTP in MSIE” move it out of that folder as it’s functionality is going to be replaced. Move “Better Bookmark HTTP in MSIE” into the “Actions” folder and you’re done. If you encounter problems as a first counter measure restart your Mac. In case it persists, check if AppleScript and Apple Data Detectors are installed properly. Please contact me only if nothing else helps. Author Michael Schürig <mailto:schuerig@acm.org?Subject=[BBMSIE]> Disclaimer Use this software at your own risk or don't use it. I take no responsibility for any adverse effects. -1- -2-

BitMapMusic version 1.0 © 1996 Kurt Kaufman BitMapMusic is a no-frills, click-and-drag music notation program. Printed output, although limited to the screen resolution, is reasonable enough to read comfortably. If your computer (especially PPC) complains about being "out of memory", try increasing the minimum requirement to 4096 KB (it is set to 3072 KB by default). BitMapMusic is "donationware"; if enough people show interest I would be inclined to further develop the program. For instance, it could use "beaming" and "slurring" features. If you find this program useful, please consider sending $5 to the author: Kurt Kaufman 1017 Old Danville Rd. Auburn ME 04210 USA Version History: 1.0 - initial release 12/28/96 Other music-related programs by the same author: SING! 2.01- create songs for the Macintosh's synthetic voices to sing (shareware). RandomNotes 1.0 - creates random sequences of notes through user input (free). KKGames 1.03 - various activities for young children (free). BitMapMusic may be included on official "info-mac" and "U-Mich" CD-ROMs. All others please contact me first for terms. KK/12/28/96 kkaufman@h5.avcnet.org -1-
