DOS Mounter Plus™ 4.0 DOS Mounter Plus™ allows you to mount DOS formatted floppies, other DOS formatted removable media and NetWare® volumes on the Macintosh desktop. It also allows you to double click on a DOS file and launch a Macintosh application you have designated. What Is DOS Mounter Plus? DOS Mounter Plus mounts MS-DOS files on the desktop, just as if they were Macintosh files. DOS Mounter Plus supports MS-DOS media in the following types of drives: - Apple SuperDrive and compatibles - Apple PC 5.25 Drive - DaynaFILE 3.5" and 5.25" drives - Removable cartridge drives - Magneto-optical drives - NetWare 2.15, 2.2 and 3.11 file servers Auto Write-Protect This feature automatically locks DOS disks as they appear on the Macintosh desktop and prevents Macintosh desktop information from being written to the disk. Mounting Floppy Disks and Other Media • SuperDrives and compatibles: Insert a 3.5" DOS disk into the SuperDrive on the Macintosh computer on which DOS Mounter Plus is installed. The disk will appear on the desktop; the disk icon will have a "D" in the center of it, indicating DOS format. • DaynaFILE single or dual 3.5" or 5.25" drives: Connect the drive and make sure that you have installed the DaynaFILE driver. Insert the appropriate DOS disk for the drive configuration. The disk will appear on the desktop; the disk icon will have a "D" in the center of it, indicating DOS format. • Apple PC 5.25 Drive: Connect the drive and insert a 5.25" 360K DOS disk into the PC drive. The disk will appear on the desktop; the disk icon will have a "D" in the center of it, indicating DOS format. • Removable cartridge drives: Connect the drive and make sure you have installed the correct driver for the type of drive you have. Insert a DOS cartridge into the removable media drive; the cartridge will appear on the desktop and its icon will have a "D" in the center of it, indicating DOS format. • Magneto-optical drives: Connect the drive and make sure you have installed the correct driver for the type of drive you have. Insert a DOS magneto-optical cartridge into the magneto-optical drive; the cartridge will appear on the desktop and its icon will have a "D" in the center of it, indicating DOS format. What is Extension Mapping? Extension Mapping is the process that DOS Mounter Plus uses to link an MS-DOS file to a Macintosh application and file type. DOS uses a three-letter file extension to group similar files (For example, Microsoft Word for Windows assigns a -1- file it creates the 'DOC' extension.) The Macintosh uses a four character code to define an application’s Creator and Type, which links the file to an application and determines how the application handles the file (Microsoft Word on the Macintosh has the creator 'MSWD' and a Microsoft Word file has the type 'WDBN'). Extension Mapping allows you to be able to double click on that f…
