However, if you copy such a picture into the clipboard and paste it into Draw again, it can be modified. WARNING: When you close Draw, the current picture will not be saved. You will have to copy it to a scrapbook or elsewhere before leaving. How to use Draw Once you are familiar with a Mac-like drawing program, you will find it easy to create Draw pictures. In the following, you will find some useful hints that should enable you to make efficient use of Draw's capabilities. • Squares, Circles & Co.: As in most other Mac-like drawing programs, the shift key may be used to constrain the movements of the mouse. This is in particular useful for drawing squares, circles, horizontal and vertical lines. Simply press the shift key while drawing rectangles, rounded rectangles, ovals and lines and watch what happens. When the shift key is down during a move or resize operation, the selected objects will only move horizontally or vertically. Draw Version 2.0 (rev. 2.5) Short Documentation page of 6 2 • Copying Objects: The most simple way to copy selected objects is to press the option key and moving the objects. DreamLink for the PC an easy guide to the © 1998 NTS Computer Systems Ltd. DreamLink Software NTS provides the DreamLink software for both Macintosh and Windows with your DreamWriter. We recommend that you load the DreamLink software on the hard drive of your Mac or PC so that it will always be available. If your computer is connected to a network, DreamLink allows printing on the network printer or saving to the designated network drive. This software allows you to print your files from the DreamWriter through a Mac or PC directly to a printer. This is commonly referred to as a “Print Through” process. DreamLink also supports interactive file exchange with both Windows PC’s and Macintosh System 7.0 directories. This allows the user to view the directory on the peripheral device and select a file to upload or download. In addition, dedicated directories can be named for uploading from the DreamWriter, allowing the teacher to set a directory per class so that when the student uploads work, the file will be stored automatically in the directory the teacher has set. The file transfer allows for the choice of RTF format or TXT format files. RTF (Rich Text Format) format is an industry standard for word processing file transfers. Unlike a TXT file transfer, RTF file transfers will maintain special features such as bold, tabs, and underlining. When formatting is not essential or the file calls for TXT (ASCII) format (e.g. program code), you have the option to transfer or save the file in TXT format. Using a Windows PC 1. Connecting a Windows PC to the DreamWriter • Using the NTS provided cable, connect the 9 pin serial connector (the cable end with only one connector) to the serial port of the DreamWriter. • Connect the 9 pin serial connector (the cable end with two connections) into the serial port of your PC. • Some PC’s have 25 pin serial ports. In this case you will need to purchase a 25 to 9 pin serial adapter. 2. DreamLink for Windows 3.1 • Install DreamLink for Windows using the standard setup procedure by putting the diskette in drive A and running A:SETUP from the FILE - RUN. • Double click on the DreamLink Group in your PROGRAM MANAGER window. • Double click on DreamLink icon to execute. 2a. DreamLink for Windows 95 • Install DreamLink for Windows using the standard setup procedure by putting the diskette in Drive A, clicking the START button, clicking on RUN and typing A:Setup. Click the OK button. • In Windows 95 click the START menu, move the cursor to PROGRAMS and then find the DreamLink group and single click on the DreamLink icon. 3. Transferring a File to a Windows PC On the PC: • Select the serial port to which you have attached the cable from the DreamWriter. (Com1, Com2, etc.) • Select FILE in the Destination © 1998 NTS Computer Systems Ltd. …

QuickStart Launch the Sword Dream 3D application by double-clicking the Dream icon, or a Dream document, such as a saved game or a game scenario). I suggest you familiarize yourself with Sword Dream by double-clicking the “Open me” icon. A brief tutorial will play explaining basic game mechanics. The characters you create and develop in Lar, the Dream world, will grow in power and knowledge as they face subsequent adventures. Before you start adventuring you must find a few characters for your group. Five characters are recommended for the current scenarios. Characters can be found inside the villages: clerics in a temple, rangers in a tavern and so on. When in these special buildings, select the last item from the rightmost menu (Ask a cleric/ranger/fighter/… to join) to have a character join your group. Give your character a name. Click on the icons to the left of your name to select one you like for your character, choose your alignment and click the Join button. You are now ready to go. Dream Basics This chapter helps you get started with your first adventure. This chapter assumes you have used the Open Me tutorial. In the center of the main window, you’ll see a small group icon. This represents your position in the map. Moving around Moving around in Dream is easy: simply click somewhere near the group icon and you’ll go there. There are a few impassable locations (like deep seas or tall mountains) where you can’t go. If you try to you’ll hear a bump, and your symbol will stay where it was. Wander around a bit to get acquainted with the map window. You can’t get hurt if there are no characters in your group yet. If you try to enter a very important place, like a dungeon, you’ll be notified that you need to find some characters before you start the rough part of the game. Finding some characters Go into a village or town, and start exploring. There are a few places there where you can find available characters. Keep a keen eye on the menu bar: wherever you enter a special place (like an Inn) where characters are found, you’ll see a new menu appear. In the village, have some characters join the group. If the character is a spellcaster (cleric or wizard) you’ll have to copy three spells into his or her spellbook. Later the spellcaster will be able to cast any one of these spells. Be certain to select the “Cure graze” spell for your cleric(s): it will be most useful. Equipping the characters Go to an inn, and buy each of them some food rations; do this before midnight, or the characters will starve! To buy something for a character, click once on his or her icon, in the left of the map window, in a shop. Note: the currently selected (darkened) character will purchase items even if you have another character's sheet open. Transferring items from one character to another is described below. When you are satisfied with the equipment you bought, have your characters don it: double-click on a character’s icon to open his or her character …
