Umgang mit CD-ROMs Im Gegensatz zur allgemeinen Ansicht können CDs bei unsachgemäßer Behandlung leicht beschädigt werden. Solche Schäden haben bei CD-ROMs viel gravierendere Auswirkungen als bei Musik-CDs. Beim Versuch, eine verschmutzte oder beschädigte CD-ROM abzuspielen, kann es leicht zu Störungen kommen. Dieses Problem tritt immer öfter auf, da die CD-ROM-Laufwerke immer schneller und störungsanfälliger werden. Auf der CD-Oberfläche kann sich schnell Staub ansammeln und bei unsachgemäßer Behandlung verkratzt sie leicht. Um die CD vor Kratzern, Fingerabdrücken, Staubpartikeln und Schmierstreifen zu schützen, sollte die unbeschriftete Seite der CD (die Seite, die gelesen wird) nicht berührt werden. Achten Sie ebenfalls darauf, dass Sie sie nicht auf einen harten Untergrund legen. Ist die CD verunreinigt, befeuchten Sie ein weiches Tuch mit einem speziellen CD- Reinigungsmittel oder mit Ethylalkohol. Reinigen Sie damit die CD von der Mitte beginnend zum Rand hin. Verwenden Sie zum Säubern der CD kein Benzol oder Lackverdünner, Antistatik-Lösungen oder Schallplattenreinigungsmittel. Dadurch würde die Oberfläche der CD beschädigt. Setzen Sie die CD nie direktem Sonnenlicht, hohen Temperaturen oder starker Luftfeuchtigkeit aus. Folgende Umgebungsbedingungen werden für die Aufbewahrung von CDs empfohlen: Temperatur: 10°C bis 50°C Feuchtigkeit: 10 % bis 80 % 3. Welcome to DupFinder! DupFinder can quickly and easily remove duplicate files from your hard disk by replacing the duplicates with the alias of a “master” file. Saves disk clutter as well as saving disk space. DupFinder is a Carbon application, so it works with OS 9 and OS X. Here’s a quick start: 1) Start DupFinder and a window similar to the following appears: Enter a valid serial number, or click on the URL <www.kagi.com> to obtain a serial number, or click on Cancel to first try DupFinder before purchasing a serial number. 2) A window similar to the following window appears: You can search for any type of file or application. Click on the “Set from file…” button to select a file and set the type of file DupFinder searches for and compares. Or manually enter the creator and/or file types. If a type is blank, it is ignored. For example, to have DupFinder search and compare all text files, enter TEXT in the file type and leave the creator type empty. 3) Click the Start button. After a short search, a window similar to the figure below appears: 4) Click on a duplicate file, and click on the “Set Master File” button. This will set the master file, and duplicates of the master will be replaced by aliases of the master. Click on a duplicate file within a duplicate set, and then click on “Alias to Master.” That deletes the duplicate and replaces it with an alias pointing to the “Master.” That’s it! The window above shows a set of duplicates under the title “Add New Records.” The first duplicate is the master file (underlined text), and the file under it is now an alias of the master (italicized text). Click on “Reveal in Finder” to reveal the files. TIPS • To quickly set a group of master files that are inside a folder, select “Set Master Folder” from the Control menu (see below). After selecting a folder, all duplicate files within that folder are displayed as “master” files. • If you think DupFinder is not finding any duplicates, try using different criteria in the search window. For example, it’s possible two files could be duplicates yet have slightly different modification dates, so try unchecking “Modification date” in the search window.
