Europa Universalis - In Nomine 1 Credits GAME DESIGN Johan Andersson Henrik Fåhraeus PROGRAMMING Henrik Fåhraeus Johan Andersson Anna Drevendal GRAPHICS Jonas Jakobsson LEAD TESTER Chris King MANUAL Johan Andersson Chris King Henrik Fåhraeus Anna Drevendal In Nomine is the second expansion of our successful title, Europa Universalis III. We feel that Napoleon’s Ambition added a nice coat of polish to what was a very solid title, so ironically enough, we felt we could show some real ambition with our second expansion. The biggest changes are those that are not immediately visible to you, but we did a lot of work on how the AI worked. The main goal was to try and remove some of randomness out of the equation and put more calculation in. In the same manner we added decisions and missions; especially with the decisions, our goal was to make things less random and more strategic. However we still didn’t want every game to be the same, so like everything else in life it all turns on a little bit of luck. 2 Expanded Timeline We have added over 53 more years of game-play, by pushing back the start date to October 13th, 1399, at the Coronation of Henry IV. This extra time period gives you Tamerlane, the Byzantine Empire, and the end of the Hundred Years War. We added 8 new levels of technology, including new units and effects. Also, not every technology-group now starts at the same level at the start of the game. This change - considering the big differences between technologies at game start - means that the supremacy of European countries when they reach the new world is that much greater. Furthermore, the map of Europe received an overhaul, with Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Russia and the Balkans getting new provinces and revised borders. In total, over 30 provinces were added. A few new countries were also added to the game; here is a quick overview: Aydin A Turkish Principality founded in the wake of the Rum Sultanate, that ruled the west coast of Asia Minor for almost a whole century. Aquileia Italian Patriarchy centered on the historical city of Aquileia in north- eastern Italy that flourished during the 11th and 12th century. Byzantine Empire The successor state to the Roman Empire centered on Constantinople or "Byzantium", as it was called before the …

In Search of the Talking Moose? Who is the Talking Moose? Where did he come from? How did he get here? What does he want from us? Is Steve Halls the only person to see a Talking Moose in the flesh? Why did Steve write the Talking Moose program? Why is Baseline publishing it? What is the Talking Moose philosophy? Why does the Talking Moose like Macintoshes? What does a Talking Moose eat? Is the Talking Moose connected to UFOs? Why are there so many questions in this introduction? These questions and more we will try to answer tonight on... In Search of the Talking Moose. Where did the Talking Moose come from? Scientists are at a loss to explain the exact origins of the Talking Moose. In fact, only in the past few years have some members of the scientific community come to accept the Talking Moose as a reality. The meager data collected so far seems to indicate that there were once huge herds of carnivorous moose shaped dinosaurs that roamed the earth. Named TyrannaMoosus Rex (“Thunder Moose King”) by an obscure Canadian paleontologist these dinosaurs were responsible for many of the practical jokes that were played on unsuspecting herbivores in the Jurrasic era. The links between the ancient Moose-lizard and the modern day Talking Moose are tentative at best. Some archaeologists suggest that the thunder mooses foresaw the coming of the ice ages, disappeared into a large cave in New Jersey, and left a wake up call for the morning. If they did, then they have overslept. The next suggestion of the Talking Moose comes from the burial chamber of an ancient Egyptian king, Ra- Moos-ese. Ra-Moos-ese‘s tomb was discovered by a curious Egyptian shepherd in 1920 when he noticed that a herd of elk would gather every June 23 at an old watering hole. When the boy told the local authorities they didn't believe him because elk are not native to Egypt. Finally, the young lad contacted the Canadian consulate of Egypt and they agreed to examine his claim. The old watering hole turned out to be the partially destroyed burial crypt of the aforementioned Ra-Moos- ese. Over the door appeared the inscription, “Enter not here or thou whilst be followed be that which walks ...and the moose did grin and the carp and the antelope and the fruit bats and the anchovies did feast upon (untranslatable) by the great river... ...and the moose said, “One. Thou shalt say hello in the morning. Two. Thou shalt say goodbye in the evening. Three. Thou shalt crack jokes in the between.” And the animals did look upon him and they saw his bow tie was red and the great king gurgled for a while and was glad. Heady stuff indeed! In a tragic side note, every member of the expedition died within a few years of each other under mysterious circumstances. The only clue to the unexplained deaths was a note one of the members of the expedition had scribbled shortly before his death. “Beware the Moose,” was…

June 4 Major brainstorm last night! Woke up in a babbling frenzy. Images of gears, motors, fan belts, generators, all sorts of gizmos and gadgets buzzing through my brain. I'm jotting down what I can remem- ber in this journal. These notes will record my progress as I undertake construction. The basic concept is this: the world is in danger of becoming boring and brain- dead and what we all need is some kind of major outrageous mind-blowing challenge! I'm talking about BIG TIME challenge. Something that will make you really wrack your brain and THINK. But it’s gotta be fun! It’s gotta be wild and intense and full of weird twists and tricks. And that’s when it hit me: a machine! An incredible machine! A machine that changes into a hundred different puzzles, games, and gadgets! And so... I’m taking on this out- rageous task of inventing his machine. What will it do? How will it work? The pos- sibilities are endless! 1 2 Journal entries- DOS installation .......................................3 Macintosh installation ..............................4 Macintosh menus and scrolling................4 Windows installation ................................5 Control panel schematic ..........................6 How to solve level one ..........................8-9 Playing puzzles ......................................10 Manipulating parts ................................11 Belts and ropes .....................................13 Ropes and pulleys ..................................14 Power supplies .......................................15 Passwords ..............................................17 Freeform mode ......................................19 Steps to make a Freeform puzzle............20 Puzzle making tutorial ......................21-23 Music hot keys and pause key ................25 Part descriptions ...............................28-35 Game credits .........................................36 Technical support ..................................37 TM and ® designate trademarks of, or licensed to Dynamix, Inc. © ® Dynamix, Inc. 1995. I’ve successfully developed a preliminary set of sprockets, whatsits, and thingamabobs that work together, allowing a person to build hundreds of INCREDIBLE MACHINES! I know I’m on the right track, but it’s not yet enough. I still need a power source to bring my machines to life.
