The BBC micro was beginning to establish itself in many schools and Granny was my first real attempt to counter the influence of those who thought computers were for computing and nothing else. I wanted to prove that a cold logical machine could be used to create a fantasy world which would encourage children to use their imaginations. Just as importantly, I wanted to produce something which would allow teachers an easy access to the new world of technology. For the next nine years I tried hard to forget about Granny’s Garden. It wasn’t easy. For reasons which I still don’t understand, the program acquired a sort of cult status. While I wasn’t looking, Granny spread far and wide. It has been …

We invite interested parties to create scenarios for the MARS engine. In order to develop scenarios for MARS, you need a colour Macintosh with at least 8MB of RAM (16MB recommended). Having a network of Macs handy (to test with multiple players) is also highly recommended. Our scenario development tools are available for FTP free of charge. We intend to improve and add to these tools over time. In addition to these, you will need a copy of ResEdit (or a similar program, such as Resorceror). No actual programming is necessary to create a scenario for MARS, but MARS does support an internal scripting language. A new life awaits you in the offworld colonies... https://web.archive.org/web/19970203160954/http://www.badgercom.com:80/mars/scenario_tools.html Page 1 of 3 MARS Scenario Tools 9/14/18, 3)49 PM MARS is by no means restricted to fantasy (as new MARS-based games we will shortly release will amply demonstrate. A screen shot from a project we currently call "Ares" is shown above). We intend to develop and build upon the MARS engine. Stay tuned! A golden land of opportunity and adventure! We will provide serious developers with technical support, graphics and animation to order (if needed), and scripting advice, as well as shareware registration facilities and commercial distribution. We will also provide access to the compression/encryption tools we use to package our scenario data for distribution. But even if you only want to fool around, feel free to download these tools and experiment. An Overview of the Scenario Toolkit MARS Scenario Toolkit is (currently) freeware, but may only be used by registered owners of Prince of Destruction or other MARS-based games. Hardware Requirements. To build scenarios, you will need a Macintosh with a minimum of 8MB of RAM (12MB recommended) a 640x400 or larger 256 colour display (i.e. Powerbooks are OK), and a 25MHz 68030 or faster (68040 recommended). Although MARS is accelerated for Power Macintosh, only the slower scenario tools are). A 12MB LC475 with RAM Doubler works just fine. The scenario tools comprise: Mapper, Map Builder, Animator, Data Builder, Map Assistant, Script Reference, MaskEdit, and AttackEdit. You can build …

"Keyboard Basics", the first exercise, teaches students correct finger positions for each key on the keyboard and allows students to learn typing at a slower pace. The second exercise, "Typing Tutor", asks the student to type a variety of exercises; in the Typing Tutor, students will be timed and their words per minute will be calculated. The third option, "Play Game", allows the student to pursue quests for Master Gecko, find scrolls, and decode those scrolls in order to help Master Gecko's friends. Macintosh Common Lisp 2.0 Release Notes These Release Notes supplement the material in Getting Started with Macintosh Common Lisp 2.0. MCL 2.0 conforms to the Common Lisp standard as it is described in Guy L. Steele’s Common Lisp: The Language (Second Edition). The ANSI Common Lisp standard continues to evolve through the work of the ANSI X3J13 subcommittee. In a few cases we have incorporated post-Steele details in MCL 2.0, based on our understanding of the ongoing work of the subcommittee. The second edition of Steele (which we’ll refer to as Steele2 below) is, however, the Common Lisp reference intended to be used with this implementation. Previous versions of our Lisp product have been called “Macintosh Allegro Common Lisp” — this is the “MACL” you will encounter as you read this document. MACL 1.x versions were based on the first edition of Steele’s book (Steele1 from now on). Actually, the lineage of this Lisp goes back farther still, to a product called “Coral Common Lisp” (this is why, for example, the package in which we have defined our extensions to the Common Lisp standard is called “CCL”). This document contains five sections: Part 1: Installing Macintosh Common Lisp 2.0 . . . . . . . 2 Part 2: General Notes on MCL 2.0 . . . . . . . . . . 4 Part 3: Third-Party MCL-Based Tools . . . . . . . . . 12 Part 4: Upgrading from MACL 1.x to MCL 2.0 . . . . . . . 14 Part 5: Upgrading from MCL 2.0b1 to MCL 2.0 . . . . . . . 18 If you are just starting out with MCL 2.0, you probably do not need to read past the first section for now. After you’ve gone through Getting Started and become familiar with the MCL environment, come back and skim Parts 2 and 3; you may find the information they contain useful. Although some effort has been made to divide information among the final two sections in a reasonable way, you may find it useful to skim both of them. MCL 2.0 Release Notes 1 Part # 030-1960-A Part 1— Installing Macintosh Common Lisp 2.0 If you have a CD-ROM drive attached to your Macintosh, simply drag the “MCL 2.0” folder from the MCL 2.0 CD-ROM to your hard disk, then proceed to step 9 below. Installing from Floppy Disks The three MCL 2.0 floppy disks each contain one segment of a Compact Pro archive. The archive is “self-extracting”: you need only insert disk #1, double-click on the “MCL 2.0.sea” application’s icon, then follow Compact Pro’s instructions. Compact Pro will create a folder called “MCL 2.0” containing the entire MCL 2.0 environment. Make sure you have 5.5 megabytes available on your hard disk, then follow these steps: 1. It is a good idea to back up the three disks shipped with MCL 2.0, just in case you need to reinstall…
