PortShare Pro 2.6 • Restored Time-Manager processing (when Virtual Memory is not active). This solves some problems with MacPPP and other applications that can lock drivers at interrupt time. • The Auto-Status mode introduced with 2.0 can now be forced using a special option in the Client control panel settings. This makes applications that issue _Status calls at interrupt time (MacPPP again) much more reliable. PortShare Pro 2.5 • Support for virtual memory improved. No more crashes on PowerMacs w/ Virtual Memory on. • Notifications Alert boxes are automatically dismissed in 1 minute. PortShare Pro 2.4.1 • A bug that caused crashes on some server computers when a client disconnected is fixed. PortShare Pro 2.4 • Support for all PowerPC computer is added. • Support for Apple multi-port cards is added. PortShare Pro 2.3 • Internal enhancements, several small interface bugs were fixed. PortShare Pro 2.2 • One-port computers (PowerBook Duo, PowerBook 5xx, etc) are supported: it is possible to create a virtual printer port on those computer, inspite of the fact that the real printer port is absent. PortShare Pro 2.1 • AV and PowerPC computers are suported. Actually, the built-in serial port drivers on these machines have several bugs, so there are some limitations when using PortShare Pro: a) when a built-in port is redefined, the real port becomes unavailable (though, it's still visible in the CTB port list); b) when a built-in port is shared, some old applications can crash the system if they try to access that port locally, when a network user is connected to the shared built-in port. • PortShare Pro now detects that the port is processed w/LineShare™ and treats the port as busy when the line is used through one of LineShare subports. PortShare Pro 2.0 • The Statistics panel was added. It is displayed when you click on the histogram icon. This panel indicates the actual performance of PortShare Pro, the total amount of bytes and packets sent and received, and the number of errors occured. It works both for shared ports (server statistics) and virtual ports (client statistics). • The delayed disconnect feature is added. • The connection time limit feature is added. • The client is informed when the connection is about to be closed. • The server activity can be indicated with a blinking icon. • The network protocol was modified to avoid performance degradation when some specific applications are used (several plotter drivers, etc). PortShare Pro 1.4 • The network protocol was modified to improve reliability. This modification also results in better performance for hi-speed communications. PortShare Pro 1.3 • The bug in processing the list of AppleTalk zones is fixed (when the number of zones was large, some zones were invisible). • A check was added to increase stability in low-stack situations. • Now PS Pro detects removing of the local ports. It can happen when a local port was a virtual port (created with LineShare, for example), and it …

Taking Advantage of PostScript John F. Sherman Taking Advantage of PostScript John F. Sherman University of Notre Dame Art, Art History & Design University of Notre Dame Notre Dame, IN 46556 5639 FRPEXX@IRISHMVS.cc.nd.edu Chapter 1 1 chapter intro Designers face a new requirement: to acquire and master a digital craft. The traditional crafts of color theory, design, typography and drawing have always been required for the designer. All of these are important and I do not advocate their dismissal. But the need for a digital craft is becoming more apparent as the innovations of technology arrive faster and faster. Designers, however, cannot focus on simply being well-trained users of expensive pieces of hardware and software. By mastering the technology, they can reach a point where innovative new solutions to visual communication problems can be discovered. The process by which an image can be made has changed dramatically. An image can be constructed by a combination of hand drawings, video capture, and computer programming. The finished image provides a solution by means of faster investigation, greater choices, and new creative possibilities. Digital craft entails learning a new language — a visual language. The greater the depth of understanding and experience in a language, the greater the vision of what can exist in the mind of the creator. Different languages allow different realities to exist. Many of the images created for this book are visual ideas that have been made into images by writing them down. They can only be achieved by an intimate knowledge of the PostScript language. I find it exciting that there are images that can only be created by writing a PostScript program. Understanding PostScript is one major avenue to mastering the technology of producing graphics. 1.1 why learn PostScript ? Why learn PostScript when there are so many good graphics programs available that are much easier to use than programming? There are two answers. First, knowing the PostScript Page Description Language (PDL) gives the designer an insight into graphics software based on the PostScript image mode. The PostScript PDL has strengths and weaknesses. Having this knowledge base builds confidence because it permits you to work with the strengths of software and not with false expectations. When something does not work as expected, you may be able to devise a way to work around or attack the problem from another direction. Second, the PostScript language is a richer graphics language than what is made available by menu selections and dialog boxes in all the graphic…

New Technical Notes Macintosh ð ® Developer Support PT 23 - Macintosh Allegro Common Lisp Features Platforms & Tools Revised by: Paul Snively February 1990 Written by: Guillermo Ortiz April 1989 This Technical Note describes some known problems and provides solutions to these problems for the Macintosh Allegro Common Lisp™ package which is available from Apple Computer, Inc. You should note, however, that although Apple acquired Coral Software and is selling Macintosh Allegro Common Lisp, Apple is not currently distributing any other products which had been developed or previously sold by Coral Software. Changes since April 1989: Noted 1.3.1 documentation errors, corrected erroneous floating-point patch for version 1.2.2, updated 1.2.2 information which is not relevant to 1.3.1, corrected APDA part number, added examples of high-level printing functions in 1.3.1, an array-dialog-item example, and information explaining how to get the Victoria-Day release of Portable Common LOOPS (PCL) to compile correctly under 1.3.1. The current supported version of the Macintosh Allegro Common Lisp package (MACL) is 1.3.1; if you have an earlier version of this product, you should obtain an upgrade through APDA (part number M0229LL/C), as Apple only supports the current version. Some Known Problems and Solutions • Typographical errors in the 1.3.1 documentation. The following symbols, documented in the “Menus” chapter, are missing a hyphen (-) in the documentation. Their proper names are as follows: add-menu-items menu-item-enable remove-menu-items menu-item-enabled-p menu-items menu-item-check-mark *menu-item* set-menu-item-check-mark menu-item-title menu-item-style set-menu-item-title set-menu-item-style menu-item-disable *window-menu-item* The following keywords are misspelled in the “Menus” chapter and do not appear in the index: :menu-items :menu-item-colors :default-menu-item-title :menu-item-checked :menu-item-title The following symbol is misspelled only in the index: menu-update PT 23 - Macintosh Allegro Common Lisp Features 1 of 7 Platforms & Tools Macintosh Technical Notes The following symbol is misspelled only in its descriptive paragraph: menu-item-update • Old versions crash on Macintoshes with a 68030 processor. Versions of MACL prior to 1.2.2 may crash…

PTGui (/) MENU What's new in PTGui 9.0? We've added a number of great new features to PTGui 9.0! Below is an overview of the most important changes. For a detailed list of new features and changes see the version history (/versionhistory.html). Read the included online help to learn more about a specific feature: context help is available in most screens by pressing F1 (Windows) or Fn+F1 (Mac), or by clicking the Help button in certain windows. Detail Viewer One of the most requested features is the ability to zoom in the panorama editor; the new Detail Viewer makes this possible. The panorama editor wil continue to show an overview of the complete panorama, while you can freely zoom in on details in the Detail Viewer window. The Detail Viewer shows a continuously updated live preview of a selected part of the panorama at full resolution. Open the Detail Viewer by clicking the button in the Panorama Editor: The Detail Viewer can be toggled between Zoom and Perspective mode. In zoom mode it shows an enlarged crop of the panorama in the original perspective. In Perspective mode the detail view is reprojected to flat (rectilinear projection) like in a spherical panorama viewer: PTGui (/) MENU In Perspective mode the Detail Viewer makes it easy to check the nadir and zenith of a panorama, without the need to render the panorama or create cube faces first: The detail viewer can be navigated by clicking and dragging with the mouse, through the keyboard arrow keys or by moving the magnifier glass to the point of interest in the Panorama Editor. Blend modes Both the Panorama Editor and the Detail Viewer offer 4 different blending modes. In the Show Seams mode the locations of the seams are highlighted by red lines. This makes it easy to spot potential alignment or blending faults: PTGui (/) MENU Masking (PTGui Pro only) The Pro version has a new 'Mask' tab. Masking allows you to hide a part of an image from the final blended panorama (the missing part is filled with content from other overlapping images). Or the other way round: you can force the blender to reveal a certain part of an image by hiding the overlapping parts of other images. To hide something paint it red in the Mask tab: PTGui (/) MENU Or to reveal an object paint it green: For more information about this feature see the tutorial Masking in PTGui Pro (/examples/masktutorial.html). Publish PTGui (/) to Website MENU Publishing an interactive panorama to a website has been possible for years using the QuickTime VR converter in PTGui.…
