FASTBACK for the Macintosh — Release 1.02 Update Notes This package contains release 1.02 of Fastback for the Macintosh. Below is a list of the major changes and enhancements incorporated into this release: •Improved Error Handling During a backup, if FASTBACK encounters a bad disk, it will eject that disk and prompt you for a new one. When the new disk is inserted, the backup will continue. During a restore, if FASTBACK can’t restore a file (even after using Error Correction Codes), it will allow you to either TRY AGAIN or SKIP the bad file and continue. •File and Folder Attributes Restored FASTBACK now restores a folder’s location, size, and view information as well as each file’s location within a folder during a full restore. •Document Launch Improved FASTBACK now restores information to allow documents to find their applications after a restore. •DeskTop File Not Copied During a backup or restore, FASTBACK has been modified to ALWAYS skip the DeskTop file automatically — rather than requiring users to exclude the file, as suggested in the documentation. •MultiFinder MultiFinder has not been available long enough to allow sufficient testing for us to recommend its use with FASTBACK. Although in most cases FASTBACK will work with MultiFinder, as a general rule backup programs should not be run with other programs or desk accessories. The other programs may access the data being copied or have a dramatic affect on FASTBACK’s timing and performance. In addition, MultiFinder does not allow FASTBACK to utilize the new feature which restores the document launch information, and so should not be used when applications are being restored. For these reasons, the Finder is recommended for use with FASTBACK backups and restores. -1- •Compatibility with FASTBACK Release 1.01 FASTBACK is completely compatible with backup sets produced with Release 1.01, so you can begin to use it immediately with your current disks. This update release is governed by the terms of the License Agreement delivered with the original program. •Apple “TeachText” Application TeachText is a copyrighted program of Apple Computer, Inc. licensed to TouchStone Software Corporation to distribute for use only in combination with FASTBACK for the Macintosh. Apple software shall not be copied onto another diskette (except for archival purposes) or into memory unless as part of the execution of FASTBACK for the Macintosh. When FASTBACK has completed execution, Apple software shall not be used by any other programs. Apple Computer, Inc. makes no warranties, either express or implied, regarding the enclosed computer software package, its merchantability or its fitness for any particular purpose. The exclusion of implied warranties is not permitted by some states. The above exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty provides you with some specific legal rights. Macintosh HD:"""""MacFormat:ya-nw-231:Docs:!!READ ME FIRST!! Page 1 of 1 Saved: Friday, September 20, 1996 12:57:18 AM HOW THE DOCS AREORGANIZED Documentation for YA-NewsWatcher consists of a number of different files organized into several folders. The "Mini Manuals" folder contains Microsoft Word version 5.1 illustrated documents that describe various special features of YA-NewsWatcher, organized by topic. The "Misc" folder contains information on converting older version filter files, a technical description of regular expressions used in filters, and the revision history of YA-NewsWatcher indicating what changes, improvements, and fixes have been made since YA-NewsWatcher was first released. "Non-English Docs" contains files explaining how to use YA-NewsWatcher in non-English language newsgroups. "Remailer Docs" features a collection of html files that provide information on anonymous remailers. The file "YA-NW Readme" provides a general overview of the program, how it differs from original NewsWatcher, and also describes those features that don't fit into one of the manuals in the "Mini Manuals" folder. UPGRADING FROM VA-NW OR OLDER YA-NW VERSIONS If you're upgrading from versions 2.0.3 or earlier of YA-NewsWatcher, or from any version of VA-NewsWatcher, you need to read the file "Converting Old Filters" now. You also need to read this file if you created user group list specific filter files in versions of YA-NewsWatcher prior to 2.2.0b10. This document contains important information on converting your filters files. Failure to read this and the other user documents CAREFULLY and THOROUGHLY will result in undue suffering on your part. If you're new to NewsWatcher or YA-NewsWatcher, you should spend the time to carefully read the excellent manual for original NewsWatcher by John Norstad, and the accompanying subject-oriented YA-NewsWatcher mini-manuals. If you've used YA-NewsWatcher before, and have already read the user docs, I suggest you look at the "YA-NW Revision History" document to see what has changed since your current version of YA-NewsWatcher, then read the appropriate subject-oriented YA-NewsWatcher mini-manuals for more information on the new or changed features, as well as "YA-NW Readme" for those topics that aren't covered by the other mini-manuals.

REALbasic QuickStart Welcome to REALbasic! REALbasic is an application builder based on a modern version of the BASIC programming language. The REALbasic development environment is made up of a rich set of graphical user interface objects (commonly referred to as a GUI), an object-oriented language, a debugger, and a compiler. With the graphical user interface, you can build your application’s interface simply by dragging and dropping interface objects into the application’s windows and dialogs. Together with REALbasic’s object-oriented language, debugger, and cross-platform compiler, it makes up REALbasic’s Integrated Development Environment (IDE), designed to make application prototyping and programming easy. REALbasic provides you with all the tools you need to build virtually any application you can imagine. If you are new to programming, you will find that REALbasic makes it fun and easy to create full-featured applications. If you are an intermediate or advanced program- mer, you will appreciate REALbasic’s rich set of built-in tools. This QuickStart is for people who are new to programming and new to REALbasic. It will give you a gentle introduction to the REALbasic development environment, lead you through the development of a real application, and show you what kinds of other applications can be built with REALbasic. It should take you no longer than 30 minutes to complete this QuickStart. REALbasic QuickStart 1 Note If you have experience with other versions of the BASIC language or have experience with other programming languages, you’ll want to check out the Tutorial and User’s Guide. In the Tutorial, you’ll develop a more complete application, which includes menus, dialog boxes, and objects called classes. Presentation Conventions The QuickStart uses screen snapshots taken from the Windows, Macintosh, and Linux versions of REALbasic. The interface design and feature set are identical on all platforms, so the differences between platforms are cosmetic and have to do with the differences between Windows XP’s standard appearance setting, the Macintosh’s Mac OS X interface, and Linux’s ‘Bluecurve’ desktop that ships with Red Hat Linux. Italic type is used to emphasize the first time a new term is used, and to highlight important concepts. In addition, titles of books, such as REALbasic User’s Guide, are italicized. When you are instructed to choose an item from one of REALbasic’s menus, you will see something like “choose File . New Project”. This is equivalent to “choose New Project from the File menu.” The items within the parentheses are keyboard shortcuts and consist of a sequence of …

Wherever applicable, the properties and methods belonging to an object are documented, along with cross- references to related objects. There is also a Quickstart, a Tutorial, and User’s Guide which teach REALbasic programming concepts. Your comments (both favorable and unfavorable) are welcome. Send them to docs@realsoftware.com. Conventions Property names in bold are read-only at runtime. This means that your code can read their values but cannot change their values. Optional Parameters in syntax statements are surrounded by brackets- [ ]. Items in blue underline (in the PDF version of the Language Reference) are hypertext links to other parts of the document. In some cases, code that is irrelevant to the example is omitted for sake of clarity. Omitted code is indicated by bullets. The Class Hierarchy Objects in REALbasic are arranged in a hierarchy. This means that an object inherits the properties, methods, and events of its super class (the classes above it in the hierarchy) and may contain properties, methods, and events that are unique to the object. A PushButton for example, is a subclass of a RectControl, which is a subclass of Control, which is a subclass of Object (the base class for all objects). You can only access their subclasses. The complete object hierarchy is presented in several pages. Object classes in bold are not directly accessible. The subclasses of Object are shown in alphabetical order and the subclasses of Control, RuntimeException, SocketCore, and the classes related to XML are shown in separate diagrams. 「RETAS!PRO(レタス プロ)」とは、仕上げ⽤ソフト「PaintMan(ペイントマン)」、撮影⽤ソフト「CoreRETAS(コアレタス)」等、各⼯程 ごとに分割された複数のソフトウェアの総称です。
