FASTBACK for the Macintosh — Release 1.02 Update Notes This package contains release 1.02 of Fastback for the Macintosh. Below is a list of the major changes and enhancements incorporated into this release: •Improved Error Handling During a backup, if FASTBACK encounters a bad disk, it will eject that disk and prompt you for a new one. When the new disk is inserted, the backup will continue. During a restore, if FASTBACK can’t restore a file (even after using Error Correction Codes), it will allow you to either TRY AGAIN or SKIP the bad file and continue. •File and Folder Attributes Restored FASTBACK now restores a folder’s location, size, and view information as well as each file’s location within a folder during a full restore. •Document Launch Improved FASTBACK now restores information to allow documents to find their applications after a restore. •DeskTop File Not Copied During a backup or restore, FASTBACK has been modified to ALWAYS skip the DeskTop file automatically — rather than requiring users to exclude the file, as suggested in the documentation. •MultiFinder MultiFinder has not been available long enough to allow sufficient testing for us to recommend its use with FASTBACK. Although in most cases FASTBACK will work with MultiFinder, as a general rule backup programs should not be run with other programs or desk accessories. The other programs may access the data being copied or have a dramatic affect on FASTBACK’s timing and performance. In addition, MultiFinder does not allow FASTBACK to utilize the new feature which restores the document launch information, and so should not be used when applications are being restored. For these reasons, the Finder is recommended for use with FASTBACK backups and restores. -1- •Compatibility with FASTBACK Release 1.01 FASTBACK is completely compatible with backup sets produced with Release 1.01, so you can begin to use it immediately with your current disks. This update release is governed by the terms of the License Agreement delivered with the original program. •Apple “TeachText” Application TeachText is a copyrighted program of Apple Computer, Inc. licensed to TouchStone Software Corporation to distribute for use only in combination with FASTBACK for the Macintosh. Apple software shall not be copied onto another diskette (except for archival purposes) or into memory unless as part of the execution of FASTBACK for the Macintosh. When FASTBACK has completed execution, Apple software shall not be used by any other programs. Apple Computer, Inc. makes no warranties, either express or implied, regarding the enclosed computer software package, its merchantability or its fitness for any particular purpose. The exclusion of implied warranties is not permitted by some states. The above exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty provides you with some specific legal rights. Peek-a-Boo 1.5 ST: Watch and change applications' behavior. Drag "PaB Special Technology" to your System Folder, where your Mac will automatically put it into the Extensions folder. Then restart your Mac to activate Special Technology. **** What is new in Peek-a-Boo 1.5 **** Peek-a-Boo 1.5 has an improved Special Technology mechanism. Its efficiency is improved, and certain processes that would not respond to earlier versions of Special Technology now respond admirably. Peek-a-Boo now has the capability to track Temporary Memory usage. (Temporary Memory is also known as the Process Manager Heap.) This new Temporary Memory support is visible in several places: + The MemGraph column can now include Temp Mem in the graph. + There is now a column to show exactly how much Temp Mem each process uses. + There are now three additional options available when you open a Logging window, all relating to Temp Mem. A "Reveal in Finder" menu item has been added: when using System 7.5 or later, you can open the folder where a process's file is. Several cosmetic improvements, including fuller color support in the main window and new "techie" CPU history windows, have been implemented. Peek-a-Boo 1.5 now runs natively on PowerPC computers, with a performance improvement of about 15%. **** What is Peek-a-Boo? **** Peek-a-Boo 1.5 ST is a shareware ($20) utility to monitor and manipulate all running processes. You can watch and adjust how much CPU time each process uses. You can view any piece of information available through the Process Manager, sorting processes by a variety of attributes. Many people have found Peek-a-Boo particularly useful for the "Special Technology" feature. When a web browser is using up too much CPU time when it should be idling, Peek-a-Boo can lower that process's priority. If a number- crunching program in the background needs more CPU time, Peek-a-Boo can raise its priority. Peek-a-Boo is well-suited to this task: it both shows CPU usage and adjusts it, so you can see what processes need their priorities changed, and you can watch how well the adjustments worked. Peek-a-Boo does not need to be running for Special Technology to take effect: once a process's priority is adjusted, it remains set until it's adjusted again. Peek-a-Boo lets you open CPU history windows to track how much processor power a process uses, and logging windows for more detailed CPU and memory usage analysis, including the ability to save the results to a tab-delimited log file. **** Download and contact information **** Peek-a-Boo 1.5 is available now. Download links and more information are available at the Peek-a-Boo web site: http://www.clarkwoodsoftware.com/peekaboo/ Inquiries, comments, and questions may be directed to: peekaboo@clarkwoodsoftware.com Peek-a-Boo 1.5 copyright (c) 1993 - 1999 by Clarkwood Software

Read Me 1995 Page 1 of 1 Saved: Friday, August 25, 1995 4:49:14 AM The Tesla Game Kit Copyright 1994-1995 Chris K. Thomas. All Rights Reserved. I'm at ckt@best.com. Well, I've been going through my old archives, and I found this. It's a demo game creation source code kit I wrote as a demo for MacPlay over a year ago. It includes: * a sprite toolkit optimized for sidescrolling arcade games, PixelBlizzard * a sound engine capable of rudimentary music and sound effects, SSE * a polygon hit testing engine to be used with the sprite toolkit, PolyMan * a sample game using the C++ application psuedo-framework I was also using for Misebirakasu at the time, MITORI Warrior * some amusing fps estimates (1500 fps! yow!) and a wildly inaccurate fps counter. I was still learning C++ at this time, so wierdness in the framework is likely. Project file for CodeWarrior 68k (probably DR/2, before the new data-fork based file format!) included. It was written, as I recall, over a period of two weeks, and is slightly incomplete as a result. Freeware, on the condition that you give me credit in your about box if you do use this for anything. I have no plans to update this stuff, as I'm building a C++ game framework, completely unrelated to this project. (MacPlay never got back to me, BTW. :P :P )
