A dead //c or......? Give it to me straight.
//C or NOT //C? That is the question that preoccupies my mind this time.
I've got an old //c i just pulled out of storage and it's got a few problems.
1) Floppy drive gets an error after trying to read disks i KNOW work.
I have external drives, IS there a work-around?
2) Keyboard sometimes just throws out random characters constantly. I opened the apple up and cleaned it and now it "seems" that the control, APPLE, and Reset keys only seem to work.
That's truly bizzare. Is there a fix?

The drive may need its head cleaned with a drive cleaniing disk and isopropl alcohol. Even using an old disk can sometimes foul it out. I have lots of old disks. Have to clean the head after using some disks.
The keyboard is another thing. I would try using a blow dryer on it lower settings. It may just need to be dryed out. Not sure you can pull up on the key stems like a II/IIe/IIgs.

Yeah, that's a good point but i sorta doubt it would be causing the random letters to be thrown up on the screen.About the keyboard: is it set to Dvorak? You can switch between Qwerty and Dvorak using the button above the keyboard. I forget what its labled, but look and press it. Try a external floppy drive abdsee if that works.
I mean it's randomly spitting out character, by it's self.When you say random characters, what do you mean? I don't know if your familiar with the Dvorak layout, but you may want to check it with the characters you get. Are the characters letters or something different?

I fix a lot of apple IIe's but have not gotten an IIc to play with, but when I have keys acting funny I sometimes fix them by repeatedly tapping on the key hard this sometimes fixes them from randomly spitting out letters. If not I usually have to solder new buttons in.

No random stuff being displayed (like i said, they were coming out by themselves, even when i wasn't touching the keyboard)
But i can't get ANYTHING to come up. ONly the CTRL & APPLE & RESET keys seem to work..
Is it possible the board might have a broken lead?
