AAAAAGGGGHHHGHGHGH!!!

I am VERY envious of you! AARRGH!!!!!

Now that I've got that out of my system, congratulations! :D

INVU!

Nice job!

Wow, that is an awesome deal. Congratulations.

I've been following the CompUSA liquidation at the 2 stores around here. No good deals popped up. I believe tomorrow or Monday is the last day the stories in my area are open. I can't decide if should go or not.

You should go on the last day during the second half of the day. That is when most stuff is 90 or 95% off. I remember getting Final Cut Express Upgrade for $10 and selling it on eBay for over $60. They'll also have wireless networking cards for $3 each and stuff, new in box that you could resell. Some of these cards work on Macs.

The very last hour, if anything is left it will be very cheap or simply given away.

Tomorrow is the last day for my local one. I went in a week ago, and they were selling broken stuff WAAAY too expensive. A $1600 laptop with a completely shattered LCD for $1000. "Tested nonfunctional" wireless mouse for $40, when they were charing the same price for a working one of the same model when they still had it in stock. And a "Tested nonfunctional", plus missing its power brick, 20" Apple Cinema Display (Aluminum,) for $499. $499?!?! They're only $599 brand-spankin'-new!

They had a 2.66 GHz quad-core Mac Pro for $1999. Not much of a savings, since it's now a generation-old model.

I'll be heading tomorrow mostly to see if they still have the Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar. It was $150, which is a bit of a discount from the original $300; but I'm hoping for it to end up even cheaper. (It was missing one of the hat switches, but the physical control was still possible.)

You will not see much stuff left for the last day. Mostly stuff you could resell on eBay, WiFi cards, random odds and ends like a FireWire hub. Maybe a few Apple software bits at 90% off, etc. Good time to get .mac if that interests you. Some AppleCare stuff, $10 AppleCare for your iPod, etc.

May you die horribly!

Awesome conquest

Nice score on the G5!

Now I hate you.

EDIT: For you bleeding heart liberals out there.

From Hell's Heart I stab at thee.

For hates sake I spit my last breath at thee.

There is that better?

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Great score, Mike!

Very nice score, hopefully that motherboard "problem" doesn't come back to bite you.

Also (and this is probably just me) what is with "hating" people that happen to get good conquests, or any conquests at all for that matter? Really? I never got that... why not just a congratulatory pat on the back. Should be happy knowing they're keeping another old (or in this case, new) computer from going unused. I know you're not serious, but still, what gives?

I'm going to agree there, I really think this "Oh I hate you now" stuff has got to stop. It may [or may not] only be joking, and even if it is, I still think it's rude, and simply not needed.

Congrats on the dual G5, do you know if it's the dualproc (PCI-X) or the dualcore (PCI-E) version? I've got a dualproc version at work that I've been deciding whether or not to buy a new hdd for, might use it as a photoshop machine while I'm on my overnight shifts.

Nice score! I'm not a great one for G5s personally, but still, any G5 for that price is an absolute steal!!!! :O

Wow. My local CompUSA ended up closing a day earlier than originally announced. I guess they sold everything. Which is a major surprise. When I went on Tuesday, they had things ridiculously high priced. A display model last-generation 2.66 GHz Mac Pro, just the tower, not even a keyboard and mouse, for the same price Apple sells them for refurbished.

I had been hoping that the joystick I mentioned before would be cheaper, but when I got there, they had already closed up.

Very nice score, hopefully that motherboard "problem" doesn't come back to bite you.

Yes, I hate that "hating" theme in the conquests section. Its also annoying when people say they never find anything in their area (mostly because they never look, unlike those who look and do find items).

Edited my own post. New answer there.

have a nice day.

Good to see the hating theme being addressed, surely a community such as this could benefit from hearty handshakes all around with another successful liberation inducted into our social club.

It's the dual core version. DDR2 memory, PCI Express.

I already have a G5, the dual proc PCI-X version 2x 1.8 GHz, so what I did is move over my hard drives and superdrive to the better G5.

Some of the memory may be bad. It locked up yesterday twice while in sleep and then once afterwards, but I did get some DDR2 sticks for $10 from CompUSA before it closed, so I can weed out the bad ram and set it aside.

EDIT: It locked up after I sent this post. It locks up for no particular reason. A red light inside of the G5 turns on. The screen entirely freezes. There is no recovery except holding down the power button and rebooting. EXCEPT for that it works brilliantly.

I'd check to see if the air deflector is functioning correctly.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86412

If the Air deflector sensor needs replacement, follow these steps.

Apart from that all I can think is RAM. If it's a red light near the RAM slots then there's a good chance that's your problem. Unfortunately i'm no expert with G5's so I can't offer definite advice, only what i've found on Google.

EDIT: A thought occurs, at 2.3ghz would this be liquid cooled? Does it even still have that same air deflector circuitry? I'd imagine something would be in place to cool the liquid reservoir, but i'm not sure if it's exactly the same as air cooled models.

The air deflector is fine.

There are no lights on inside at all when it is running fine. The instant it freezes, a red light turns on, and then the fans either rev up immediately, or after two minutes. This is with the air deflector and everything, are all on.

I pulled out the 2x256 MB Micron RAM but it froze again, so I pulled out now the 2x256 MB "CENTON" RAM. It's down to the 4x512 MB that I bought at CompUSA.

I have run SystemLoad which loads the processors up. They appear to take the load fine. I see the temperature in Temperature Monitor go up and down when I launch and quit SystemLoad, respectively.

It's not the RAM.

I thought it might be the video card, but Halo plays OK.

I can get it to freeze by playing full screen OpenGL iTunes visualizations. But only if I leave the room. WTF. I sat here for 10 minutes and watched colored lines fly across the screen and it didn't freeze. I went to the restroom and it froze.

Now the damned thing won't freeze, but it's frozen up about 10 times during the night.

If it's the video card then I'll get another card, but if it's anything else then I'm afraid it parted out. I'll certainly take a profit on it though. Even if the mobo is shot the other parts are easily worth twice what I paid.
