Here is the Serial card. It is a "Stealth Serial" from GeeThree and they retail for $49 (if the company still exists). The handiest feature seems to be Localtalk compatibility in OS 9. I hadn't ever seen one of these before:

man... i find that to be pretty cool for some reason.

Cool because it brought a bit of Old World into the New World. Many people bought these solely for Localtalk connectivity since that was the only advantage these ports had over USB-to-serial adapters.

I liked the GDock II that was out very briefly. It has 2x Serial Ports, 2x ADB Ports, a Parallel port, and a 3.5" ATA drive slot. Connected over the USB port and sat on top of your G3/G4 style case. I have a GDock I on my G4. Would love to find a GDock II.

Hmmm, cool. That's a bit different than the gPort which mounted in place of the modem jack.

Found an SE/30 at the university sale today. I convinced them to sell it whole with the hard drive after bringing a 7.5.3 boot disk with SCSI Director to wipe it with.

Does anyone know a vintage formatting util that zero writes?

I was able to pick up a IIci from the LEM swap list this week for $15. It had a dead logic board but I was able to find the rotten trace and get it running. On to retrobriting.

Cool, so no more need for the one I have, or do you want a second one?

-J

No need unless you need to be rid of it. I still have some Plus action for you whenever you get a chance. We are still square in regard to that deal.

Aww! I was going to get that one, but I got busy :(

Oh, well. I've got too much stuff as it is.

I'm glad you're getting it back into shape, though!

Yep. I want to pair it with a Portrait display for the gallery shoot!

The seller ended up being a former Apple QA tester. The machine was in pretty good shape aside from an acceptable amount of yellowing and the bad trace on UE13

came close to getting one of those modem port serial cards for my B&W G3 back in the day. ended up moving and unable to get high-speed internet so I needed the modem. Got a USB to serial instead(which I still have)

The IIci cleaned up nicely.

The portrait display compliments the IIci well!

Very sharp.

Looks as though they were meant for one another.

Looks can be deceiving. I saw that setup once in a movie and wanted one forever thereafter. I finally got it and I set up WordWright on one side of my three sided workstation in the shop. The dang thing puts the Display too high for comfort and the half inch lower deck on the DuoDock is still too high. The Q605 looks very 8-) sitting pretty under the Portrait, but the height and angle don't work well, too low really.

Works a bit better on the sloped deck of the LC475, but I'm thinking the IIsi may be the perfect Portrait stand. It makes sense in a way, the Portrait is the only decent, usable screen resolution offered by the vampire video subsystem of the IIsi and word processing would be its strong suit.

Very nice work! Looks like it just rolled out of the factory.

Funny the keyboard on the side is much dirtier

i think that 1970's wood paneling is pretty nice :-p

is there shag carpet to match?

Nah, I ripped it all out myself.

mcdermd you are such an animal :)

is there anything you don't do?

Nice, job mcdermd.

On a side note, are you OK uniserver? I don't particularly care about what someone does in his or her free time, but innuendo like that may not be appropriate for the MLA. Shad carpets, animals... next we'll be talking about closets!

Nice setup, McD

Is the Kegerator Avocado or Harvest Gold?

Personally, I'd go with a Mid-Century Modern, FORMICA as the coolest new high-tech material design aesthetic. :approve:

Have you tried using the Portrait/IIci setup yet? What do you think about the height in terms of ergonomics? :?:

Waiting on a cable. I'm hoping it works. It's the 13W3 --> 15-pin cable for the 21" color monitor.

the wife wants a concrete house :)

all my free time has been going toward fixin old mac's

are you OK uniserver?
mostly :)

 Everywhere but between you ears, uni? I hear that's going around. ;)

Doubtful, but there is a way to convert it to Portrait mode, had to do that with a cable that was supposed to work with both.

:/

I know the 21" color cable works with the 21" monochrome monitor but not the other way around. I was hoping the portrait would be the same story as the 21" mono. I actually passed up an early color 21" a while back because the case plastics were all cracked and broken.

Oh well. Maybe I'll have to break down and buy the NuBus card to sue with a straight 13W3 cable.
