Damn isaw a cable at free geek and didn't pick it up a week ago. Ill try and get a day and go look again. I'm so sorry, been working a lot lately.
I'm pretty sure my cables are from Griffen, their tech support was fabulous. The guy gave me the pinout changes to make and it worked like a champ. I've still got it, but a couple of the wires came loose. They shouldn't be too difficult to noodle out.
Been having a hard time scoring anything recently. I broke the dry spell with a 12" PowerBook G4 in the box with all the stuffings for $25. It works but is missing a battery and in fairly dirty shape.
I also managed to get a PowerMac 6500/250 from a guy I know. It is in fairly good snap with a bad Zip drive and a broken tab on the logic board back plate. Anyone have a 6x00 back plate with both tabs?

Nice job on the PowerBook! I spent around $100 after getting mine all working. And you got the box too!
I touched bases with my friend today and brought home a IIx, a IIfx, a Platinum Mac Plus (with the box, manuals, inserts, software, etc), a boxed Ethernet CS card, a new, sealed external Apple SuperDrive floppy drive, System 7.0.1 floppies, stickers, etc.
I guess with the SuperDrive being sealed, I'll get a look at what Platinum looks like brand new

Do tell us what version it is. I have the one that has the amber activity light. Others come with a red activity light like the 800k drives but have "FDHD" silk screened on the front.
I opened the box and it does not have any "FDHD" or "SuperDrive" silkscreen. I'll have to plug it in tomorrow and check the light but from the sounds of it, the LED should be amber. It's pretty cool to open a brand-new, vintage item. I think this was a first for me.
Most of the external SuperDrives I've seen (either in magazines or in person) have had the amber LED. With or without the silkscreened badging. So, I suspect that it will be amber...

Apple sold these drives fairly late, I recall seeing them in a 1992 catalog a I had for $400. I wish I had that catalog still... :disapprove: I don't think it sold all that much to Mac users given how few machines actually had a floppy port and the SWIM chip. Most were likely sold for the setup I use, namely on an Apple II equipped with the Apple FDHD controller.
Yup, which, like the Liron card, is like hen's teeth. If I had one, I could use the modded A9M0106 to its full capabilities on the //e...

Picked up an LC550, Imagewriter I and a 3GB M2115 hard drive on lunch today.

Was able to pick up a Dual 2.5 GHz Power Mac G5 liquid cooled beast minus RAM and hard drive at the university surplus for a single $20. I couldn't resist. I've always wanted a liquid cooled G5.

I would keep a close eye on it, my dual 2.5ghz leaked twice
However if it leaks you can put a pair of the old style heatsinks on it, thats what i did with mine in the end and it's been going for 3 or 4 months now with no problems

But if I did that, it would be like my other two Power Mac G5s.
So was there anyone that did analysis on these, to figure out why they leaked,
I know the cooling system was designed by DELPHI a division of GM, looks like they basically used an Aluminum A/C evaporator for the Liquid to air heat exchanging process.
The issue with liquid based cooling systems is they will all eventually need some kind of service.
Even with the ford model T, using natural convection instead of a water pump.
I'm sure you could still develop a leak causing the cooling system to fail… or scale build up in the heat exchanger would slow or halt the
convection process.
About the worst you would have to worry about with a hunk of metal as a heat sink (passive heat exchanger) on a cpu is dust clogging it up.
oh and maybe the thermal grease drying and caking, between the HS and CPU, but i think that is just due to poor quality thermal grease in the first place.
well, maybe the fan burning out, those case fans in those G5 towers are aggressive and very good quality.

I got a hand me down from a friend tonight - Powerbook G4 1.67 high res with the box, media etc. It seems to work well so just the cursory cleaning and it will be good to go. That means I have the first G4 AL book and the last.
