Prices on 950's going up?

Just spotted this as sold on eBay:

I last checked on this several months ago, and they were selling for slightly over $200 there. It seems that the value of vintage macintoshes are going up, correct?

Seems a bit pricey, but then again I have not seen that many for sale like there used to be.

Odd they didn't even have pictures showing condition inside and out. You would usually see some pretty detailed pictures for auctions where prices are this high.

Actually there are. Scroll down on the picture area. It shows the motherboard with RAM SIMMs populated.

Yea, must have not seen those when using my old Win2k machine (IE6).

Still one auction is not a trend.

Like anything, it's one of those machines that either goes for nothing or a small pile of money - depending on the bidding war, the seller's location, and a good description and photos like in this ad never go astray. Picked up mine for $70 last year, which is the most I've ever spent on a vintage Mac.

Well even as a one-off there's something to be considered: a second bidder was willing to pay US $555.00 for that Quadra.

Quadra 950s are like the housing market; once someone pays 300,000 for a unit not even worth it's previous price, it all goes up.

They were pretty cheap a few months back too when I bought two and a 700 for $30 total.

I sold my Classic II because it was a POS design, no idea why somebody would want one over an SE or SE/30.

That or nostalgic reasons, as the classic/classicII were the home units of the time?

I remember game shows, like doubledare and etc offering them as a final prize. Ive only ever owned one classic way back in the day, and it was a thrift store find. ran great until the CPU decided to die off.... and that was it.

I have a small army of 5 (well one in a WGS 95), picked them up back when nobody wanted them.

I thought the pictures were stock photos of the 950 as new, but it seems like they might be legit pics of the actual unit, or a mix. If all the pics are legit, this is a VERY fine example of the 950 and worth the price to a well heeled collector.

The problem is that many eBay sellers will think that their stickered, beat up, "K-12 rescue" macs will fetch the price of a museum piece like this one, once the auction pics disappear.

I was actually offered both a 900 and a 950 for FREE nearly four years ago, but passed due to space constraints...the 950 even had a SyQuest or something similar in one of its bays...

There are reasons a casual vintage user would want a Classic over an SE. They have an internal SuperDrive, which makes it far easier to transfer files from a newer Mac. They're also easier to work on--all batteries are in holders and the RAM card can be removed without taking the logic board out. Still, the SE is definitely a better-engeineered design.
