I had a 2GB sandisk compactflash card. Tried it out, but the patched apple SC wouldnt see it. And the drive setup said Unsupported disk.

Sooo, I used micronet and it seen the capacity, partitioned it, and is booting on my 520c 68K parts machine (used it as a test base). Full partition, since its 2GB. works fine.

Micronet, never heard of it. Who made it?

Also, now we know it can do at least 2 GB. I'll report back once I have my 4 GB card.

Great to hear these are all working out so well for everyone. We made a real find considering the cost of the alternative.

Yes, but I think they're different. He also mentioned they only worked at 192MB and seemed to be locked at that level in firmware. I believe they are SSD drives and not the older ones we have (if mine would ever come). Well with an install of 7.5 on the Adtron my powerbook 100 and I got sad Mac. I am reinstalling it to see if that will fix it as the two 512 mb cards showed up.

Well hard disk toolkit 2.5 needs a 68030 or better so I guess I need to find something that works on the adtron that works on a 68000 like silver lining or something.

Patched apple file won't see it. Tried that first, the drive works fine in my 540 so if I can't get something that is 68000 compatible then I'll just put another drive in I guess.

Are these adapters showing up as removable SCSI devices? Something like that might trip up even a patched HD SC Setup.

I was also thinking that maybe filling only one CF slot would help. I don't know how the two CF cards show up (do they just look like one drive?) but maybe that would help?

I put a 4GB CF in slot 1 of my Adtron adapter and Hard Disk SpeedTools 3.3 had no trouble seeing it and turning it into 2 2GB HFS partitions. I put a system folder on the main drive and it booted up no problem. So, we now know for sure that 2GB is not the upper limit of these adapters.

This sucker flies! It has to be at least an order of magnitude faster than the 320MB 2.5" SCSI drive I had in there.

Mine also has the older 1998 2.02 firmware, so that does not appear to be a limitation.

From what I was reading, one needs to have two identical CF cards to use both slots, you can't use two different types.

I'm hoping mine comes tomorrow. For me, I have the single slot version. I went with this one because I was worried about the compatibility with the two slots. I thought they may show up as LUNs and older Macs would have a problem with that. This proves that wrong because can only go with one slot. I'm glad to be wrong in this case

Hard Disk Speedtools showed the 1 compact drive as SCSI0 // LUN0.

Were you able to try the 8GB card? Seems the 8GB card is cheaper than the 4GB card here so confirmation that it worked would be great.

I don't see 8GB cards as being cheaper, at least on eBay. I got my new 4GB, Transcend brand, for $6.00, free shipping.

Of course I have found that small things like this are much better ordered as part of an order with other larger things or during a free shipping deal. That only becomes an issue if you have nothing else that you need. but a CF card is handy enough that you might toss one or two in your cart with other items during a sale and save it for later.

NCIX.com and Newegg.ca have been stocking fewer and fewer CF cards though! There may come a time when you need one and there are few to pick from.

It is not found at all by patched HD tools. Hard disk toolkit sees it as a normal scsi drive.

I'll be trying one out. I've been in casual lookout mode for an SD->CF adapter and it will be interesting to see just how far back in the lineup this will work, if at all. PB190 would be great, but I doubt it.

It goes sad mac as the HD toolkit is not supported by less than an 030 processor. If silverlining will see it and format it I am in like Flynn.

The auction info says it supports "True-IDE" mode, so it should work in a CF-to-IDE adapter with standard SD storage cards. Don't know about the Wi-Fi part, SDIO is a different beast overall.

I have a copy of FWB HD Toolkit on one of my external drives. I recall running it on my Portable, so maybe its old enough to support 68k machines. I'll have to pull it up and check the version number. Generally the 68k machines don't like SCSI Manager 4.3 drivers. Apple's own docs say you shouldn't even use later versions of Apple HD SC Setup on these machines.

Ya since the 100 is basically the portable, that would be great as version 2.5 is way too new, although if you boot your portable off the internal drive and just use an external it may not work. But I am still hugely curious.
