Favorite Anime?

For me Cowboy BeBop and Tenchi Muyo.

Eee Tenchi I am not into any of that stuff on Toonami, specially not DBZ

Right now I am partial to Hellsing. Most excellent.

Never did dig Ghost in the Shell. I was just bewildered after watching it.

I like many, but I just can't stand the average fan.

Tenchi never should have been on Toonami. No matter how you edit it, it's still about several girls trying to have sex with the same boy and always failing.

An anime genre that was perfected by Tenchi.

My favorites are:

1. Mermaid's Saga (remake series coming soon!)
2. Urusei Yatsura (the series that perfected the perverted boy tries to have sex with every girl he sees and always fails anime genre)
3. Tenchi (see above)

And the obsessed anime fan is more annoying than the obsessed Star Trek Fan.

FLCL kinda wierded me out, maybe it was because i missed the first couple episodes

right now i would have to say my fav is Bebop, i would go with Trigun, but i can stand how they always move back and forth between the "high definition" and "low-definition" animation

I started watching Tenchi when I was on a student exchange trip to Ebino Japan. Then when I got back I was surprised and disappointed all at the same time.

And I really don't know when I started to watch Bebop.

Nope, it's just that Fooly Cooly makes no sense whatsoever.

That's absolutely right. I'm heavily involved in the Japanese department at UW-Madison, and a lot of the new students each year are taking Japanese because they like anime or manga. These people are the weirdest, nerdiest, creepiest people I've ever met. And with few exceptions, they quickly drop the classes because they're too hard.

It's really a strange phenomenon.

I'm also a big Bebop fan, Trigun, Naruto, Iria, lots of stuff. Can't think of it all right now.

Since when is sushi a fad? It's been popular since as long as I can remember (mid-80s), I don't think fads last 20 years. The only Japanese food that non-Japanese people regularly can't stomach that I can think of is なっと, which is understandable (though I like it) and some of the "weirder" (from a western perspective) animals like eel and sea urchin and stuff. Personally, I'll eat anything and usually like it (except olives! and clams!)

Yeah, sushi is hardly a fad. Many open-minded individuals enjoy it as frequently as they can afford it (it's so expensive ). Stop by any even slightly upscale grocery store in the US today and you'll likely see some shitty pre-made sushi available near the deli area. Sushi ain't goin' nowhere.

Why is some of your Japanese coming out the way it should and the rest as Roman gibberish that requires me to set encoding to Japanese?

I can't understand Japanese, but I'd rather see Japanese text that I can't understand instead of gibberish that no one understands.

Well, I have a large DVD collection of animes, so there's a lot that I really like. Just in the past 3 months, I have at least spend close to $1000 on them. But some of my all time favorites would be Chobits, Orange Road, Samurai X, and Tenchi. There's a lot of other ones I really like, but I guess those would be on the top of my list.

At the moment I'm slowly making my way through X. I just finished the Chobits manga last night, and while I've heard that the anime sucks (and can believe it) I'm now tempted to watch it just to see how they handled the ending.

My favorite of all time would have to be Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou, despite the butcher-shop job Right Stuf did with Episode 18. Which, to be fair, was not entirely their fault; Gainax wouldn't let them use the real version, for reasons no one really understands.

Ai Yori Aoshi pisses me off because it could have unseated KareKano, but wasted that opportunity on mindless fanservice. However, it remains the best harem-type series I've seen yet, outstripping Tenchi, Love Hina, and their ilk by miles; only Ranma 1/2 even comes close. And when it's not being fanservicey junk, it's still easily the best anime romance ever, by leaps and bounds, simply because they've managed to make the characters more interesting than anything I've seen outside of Evangelion.

If you want a quick list of things that Every Anime Fan Must See, I suppose I'd say the following:

• Slayers (fantasy/comedy)
• Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (romance)
• Gravitation (shounen-ai, but as light as it gets; a decent introduction to the genre with no risk of nausea for the faint of heart)
  [*[Evangelion (though I'd only recommend this to more mature viewers)
• Gundam Wing (mecha)
• Ranma 1/2 (action/comedy)
• Rurouni Kenshin (action/dramatic/pseudo-historical)
• My Neighbor Totoro (cute)
• Voices of a Distant Star (The Ultimate Date Anime, and required viewing for all Mac users anyway, since the whole thing was done on a single iMac DV).

I really like two anime story in Animatrix. They are "World Record" and "Kid's Story"

Just Amazing.

My all time favorite anime is still Akira. It's such an extraordinary work.

Robotech.

But I haven't really watched it since the late 80's. Same with Miyazaki's Nausicaa (Warrior's of the Wind). Someday in the future, I'll buy the DVDs and feel happy about myself. Personally, I can't stand what happened. The popularity exploded around the mid-nineties and it's all for the crappiest stuff (except maybe Ghost in the Shell and a few similar/related films). IMHO. I'd rather shoot myself than be a fanboy.

No one understands anything that Gainax does. Stop trying to figure them out. Your head will explode.

My Japanese shows up in Safari even with ISO Latin 1, but nonhuman's is messed up with that encoding. I wrote it in Firebird, so that might be the difference.

Ohhh "His and Her Circumstances" I have heard a lot about that one...

I should make it my next thing to see.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex (currently airing in Japan. Just got renewed for another 26 episodes, and I can hardly wait!) this sets the standard for excellence in TV animation IMO.

Azumanga Daioh

Ikkitousen is pretty cool, only seen the first episode so far. Can't beat historical drama + fanservice!

FLCL was totally bizarre but highly enjoyable.

And the usual Miyazaki, Yamato, Galaxy Express, Captain Harlock, etc.
