Eating Hamburgers Still -- Second Thoughts?
So, in light of the beef scare -- contaminated beef in 8 states and Guam -- are you thinking twice about eating beef? Especially since most articles state that the brain and spinal cord and old cows are routinely turned into hamburger?
BE HONEST when you post, by the way and give reasons.
(No, I don't want a poll.)
I'm on my way to Longhorn steakhouse, incidentally. Not sure if I should eat steak or not
but they have good chicken I hear, too.

Some beef products--especially a lot of ground beef--are limited to thigh meat and other parts of the cow that have yet to be found to have mad cow disease (even when the cow does). Just make sure you're getting beef from a reliable source.

Hey. What happened to eating only meat killed in accordance with kosher dietary laws?
Hey, I'm eating nothing but 100% Montana grown beef baby. I haven't paused a hitch.
i just had a steak yesterday...hmmm, now i'm hungry...think i'll get a burger now...thanks iwrite.

When we do eat beef, we eat only organic or grass-fed. Only when we go out to dinner to we deviate (that's if we end up eating beef).
Quit eating red meat years ago; don't miss it.

Sure.. the 'scare' was a REALIZATION, people, it didn't exactly change much..
It's probably safer now than it was before because at least people are keeping a *somewhat* closer eye on what happens - while it's doubtful it's any more then a glance that's better than nothing?
So sure. I know what I'm eating when I do that but it tastes pretty nice

Same here. Some people don't realize that some of us just don't miss it.
"The Agriculture Department estimates that 130,000 down cattle are sent to meatpacking plants each year."
with that amount of sick cattle allowed in the food supply
chances are if you ate any COW this year you've all ready subjected yourself to BSE
so just ENJOY.....
u.s. government health "protection" is always reactionary hindsight not visionary.

i don't eat beef much, my wife and i buy ground turkey for things we make at home. i eat cheeseburgers sometimes...i don't eat much beef but now i dont think i will eat some for awhile...give me a good piece of chicken over some beef anyday.
I ordered a chicken caesar salad instead of my usual steak at Texas Roadhouse last night, and cutting back on red meat is something I've been meaning to do anyway. After hearing all of the horror stories from inside the USDA from my father, most meat isn't looking too great now. Luckily there's a Whole Foods nearby to get quality meat from.

Nope. Haven't thought twice about eating beef for over 15 years. I don't eat it. I don't think about it.
I swear, meat will one day be the death of us all.
Behold the vegetarians, for they shall inherit the earth.

I grind my own beef and don't like restaurant burgers (they overcook them.)
Most of the beef I eat was raised on our farm. I'll still eat beef in restaurents, I don't think I could ever give up hamburgers. Steak and beef roasts I can do without, but not burgers. I'll risk it.

What's "protien"? Is that the stuff which jocks take to lower their intelligence?

iWrites about food more than most...
Hell no, I'm not giving up beef. I'm having burgers tonight, as a matter of fact.
I hope people realize they're more likely to be struck by lightning or hit by a bus then get Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Heck, I'd imagine you have a greater chance of getting hit by both lightning and a bus at the same time then getting Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

benign: iWrite is preggers, hence the appetite.

Mastrap: I had broiled grouper and steamed vegetables.

Anyway, I couldn't believe it but the place was crammed full and they had a 30 minute wait and we asked the waitress if business had dropped off and she said, "Not at all."
I don't particularly want or like to eat beef, to be honest. I like fish and poultry. I like ground turkey if I need a burger or something resembling ground beef. Even turkey Italian sausage is great these days. I also really don't care for pork and I never eat lamb.
Anyway, everyone has great responses!

No doubts. The odds of coming down with CJD are pretty remote.
I've got plenty in life at stake, and plenty to worry about and be afraid of. I positively, utterly refuse to be afraid of a sandwich.
