Mine had the same problem. Many years of no use meant the bearings were stiff. You applied power and quickly gave the spindle a little twist before the motor drivers burned out. I …
Thanks for the offer! I think I won't need it, though: after much fussing and fiddling, I finally have a working IIgs serial cable for ADTPro *and* a working Lisa serial cable for …

I just recently ran into this problem with a pair of 5 1/4 floppy drives on my IBM 5155. I had to press-out the hubs a…

It's an evil thing to suggest, but does your IIgs' motherboard have the header soldered for a IIe keyboard? Since your IIe is already damaged you could use that as the excuse to cu…

Ah, I guess you're right about audio. But won't I need the SSC anyway, unless I continue using the IIgs as a go-between disk making station for the IIe?

Thanks again for your advises! The disk can spin but not lightly... Not sure if this should be the case.
I will look into the motor connection. Maybe I can find documentat…
The IIgs certainly brings its share of conveniences, even as an 8-bit machine. Plenty of folks used them as well equipped "fast" Apple IIes back in the day.

I've run into a snag with ADTPro. Using the audio out from my PC, I was able to successfully bootstrap the IIe and load the ADTPro client. But to actually transfer any disk images …

The board inside the speaker panel, not the inverter. The battery shouldn't make a difference. If anything you should test the symptoms just on AC adapter and just on battery. …

Does the drive spindle spin freely by hand? It's possible that stiction is the issue. If it's stuck, try forcing it to turn. You've got nothing to lose because your stuck anyway…
yeah the hinges have been reinforced by two metal pieces on the kanga, so the two plastic pieces that cover the hinges must cover a bigger volume compare to the 3400c. Must have be…

Keep cards with ROMs out of slot 3, it interferes with the 80 column firmware. You should be able to boot strap ADTPro via serial on an unenhanced IIe.
