Check out Apple Store

I knew it.

So. Is it going to announced in Septemeber or announced earlier but available in September?
Bummer that they'll miss the back-to-school market.

I wonder if the new low-power G5 is the thing that delayed the new iMac's announcement? Is the iMac G5 coming?
"all-new"

It *has* to be a G5 machine. If it was just gonna be a G4 speed bump it would have happened already.

Time to start a little budgeting for my new Mac. Come Sept there will be a purchase--iMac, eMac or PowerMac depending on price/performance of the new iMac.

Been waiting a long time for this. I haven't had a Mac since I sold my PowerMac 6100 w/ DOS card like 10 years ago. When OS X came out I was re-converted but held off buying for various reasons.

The day has finally come (well, coming in septembe that is)
Um, wtf? Can anyone say h@><0r3d?

EDIT: Guess not, Maccentral says it was confirmed. So I'll repeat: Um, wtf? They'll go two months without a product to sell? I'm assuming several heads will roll for that one.
Wow, I am impressed they admitted it.
Whoa! That's a lot of posts for someone who hasn't owned a Mac in 10 years!

I started on this forum (different user name) way back in the alt.comp.mac.advocacy days and made a lot of friends so I stuck around. Most of my posts are in the Lounge or Political Lounge but I've always been a Mac Head at heart even if I don't currently own one.
I am in awe.

I was checking the url - clicking around thinking "this a fake right?"

Selling my 17 inch 800 immediately.

What are you going to do for 3 months then?
Seems a bit odd telling people not to buy their current iMac lineup. you'd think they'd just keep selling them, getting a little bit of profit, then just releasing the new ones. Wonder if they'd do this for all their Macs?

Apple store: " We're currently not taking any orders on our Powerbooks due to a transition to our new super-duper G5 one. We anticipate it will be available by 2006".
Heh. If you go to the UK store all iMacs are currently listed as costing -1.18

Mmmm, new iMac goodness on the way!
Yeah, they'll probably waited until July so they could say, it will be only two months till its released, even though it probably won't actually ship(one machine) until the last day of September.

Glad I don't own any Apple stock, you know how bad this is going to f*ck up their current quarter? I'm sure when they release their latest quarterly results, they'll warn they won't meet expectations and their stock will drop quite a bit.

Just means that they stopped building units a while back based on the calculation that current inventory would hold until the new iMac was announced.

The question is whether the calculation was wrong or if something happened that delayed the iMac debut.

I tend to think some Logistics expert got fired rather than they suddenly realized the product had a flaw or something. I bet the Logistics guy simply forgot to carry a one or something.
Pretty bad timing though. Something is amiss I think. Mind you, it's nice to see Apple acually mention that a new piece of hardware is coming, so unlike their past behaviour.
I'd guess a component manufacturer just notified Apple that they won't be able to supply them in quantity(IBM?) for a month, or perhaps Apple began manufacturing them and they realized there was a fatal design flaw.

Well, typically they wouldn't admit it because they would have remaining inventory to clear out. In this instance they don't.

Had the inventory held, we wouldn't have seen this fore-warning of an "all-new" iMac on the horizon.

Now it only remains to get our expectations so freaking high that we will be bitterly disappointed in September no matter how awesome the new iMac is.
Here's to the new open Apple. Big smiles all round.

I'd say the former is much much more likely than the latter.
wow that page deserves a screen shot..

new imacs...cool...but still likes current imacs and if i could afford it i would have one right now....

so as a prvious poster said why not sell up and until september with discounts? like the cinema displays?

well maybe it's keeping one step ahead of the rumors...all i know is there's going to be a keynote in august or september
We will just have to be patient and see what Steve does next!
The few remaining iMac around (CompUSA, MicroCenter, etc.) should be going for a song... that is if you want a G4 iMac. Apple might as well sent "Soon obsolete" stickers to their resellers for adhering to the iMac...

Think the already unhappy resellers may be upset with this move... but mebbe not.
yeah didn't some financial guy say imac sales hurting apple...will the stock stay the same? aapl is almost passing dell....

This is not going to help the stock, as they have virtually no iMacs to sell. CompUSA, the largest Mac retail seller, is almost out of iMacs already, and some stores have been out for weeks.

because if they keep selling they're going to have to make more of the current iMacs, which they don't want.

i think this is great, because perhaps now apple will release something that you can actually buy the same day. :O!
My guess, was supposed to be announced to ship in July, but late into it's production SOMETHING came up. My guess, this was supposed to be the BIG WWDC announcement.

Anyone else anticipate iMac and iMac mini?

Which means, come mid-September, there will be a frenzy of "sightings" of unusual Apple boxes at CompUSA. Remember back when OS X (10.0) was first released and people were skulking through dumpsters at CompUSA in hopes of catching hold of an accidentally discarded box.

It is going to be a L - O - N - G summer. LOL!
Do you think they'll look good in aluminium?

I've got a 500 DVSE to get me by. Although if I am going to convince the wife of a new machine, I may have to part with that one also. which I dont want to do .

I'll think of something
I wonder what Apple has against just announcing them now and taking pre-orders. Its not like they have never done that before. The new 30" isnt shipping until August...
