That is so weird and unlike them.
New iMac is coming
That's true... perhaps they may be later than September... or maybe they just want to blow everyone away or something who knows...

Nah, my guess is white will continue to be the consumer line color of choice. You can't start making everything look like the G5s and the PowerBooks.
My guess is we'll see a more aluminum iMac, perhaps one that is accented with aluminium. And then MacWorld SF we'll see G5 PowerBooks, then the iBook G4 will get slight aluminium accents. As well as the iMac eventually getting the aluminium touch. They already have metal on them a little bit. I bet this will simply push it up a few notches.
Riiiiighhtt. New iMacs in aluminum with colors matching the new iPod minis. Tight fitting around the screen, G5....no wait I'll do fake specs.

i cant wait to see what direction the design team has for the new imac .. the first one was .. nothing short of revolutionary (although i didnt like the colors) ... sweet little machines. i like the current ones .. the hinged lcd blew me away .. and i was a pc user during all of this .. now that i'm interested in macs .. i wanna see what the imac, and the next gen g5 powerbook will look like =)

I hope not. There's never been a design as ergonomic as that.
I like the gooseneck.

I'll give you $700
Before the rumors sites start to speculate on the specs, I would like to set the bar low now. That way I won't be disappointed when the new iMacs come out and don't have exactly what the rumor sites said. I'm going to say:
Top end iMac:
20" LCD
G5 2.0GHz
NVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (64MB DDR video memory)
512 MB DDR400 SDRAM
120 GB Serial ATA HD
SuperDrive
$2699
Midrange iMac:
17" LCD
G5 1.8GHz
NVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (64MB DDR video memory)
512 MB DDR400 SDRAM
80 GB Serial ATA HD
SuperDrive
$2299
Low end iMac:
17" LCD
G5 1.6GHz
GeForce4 MX (32MB DDR video memory)
256 MB DDR400 SDRAM
80 GB Serial ATA HD
Combo Drive
$1899
Other Notes: I think my predicted pricing is pretty reasonable for Apple. The eMac is the low end, the iBooks are about the same as the iMacs right now (and also in need of an update) and the PowerBooks and PowerMacs hold the high end. Maybe, just maybe we will get lucky and the low end will be an FX 5200, and the high end will be a Radeon 9600 (although knowing Apple not the XT vers). Everything is single processor of course (the precious PowerMacs can't suffer sales to these). I might even go so far as to say that the top end will only have a 1.8GHz G5, as Apple has done some similarly dumb things in the past.
I'm trying to keep in mind the 3 Apple constants:
1) Things will be more expensive than existing prices because of the "pretty new case markup" and the "it has a G5, so we are allowed to raise price points" factor (witness PowerMac pricing going up across the board when it went from G4 to G5).
2) The low end never has enough RAM, a trend Apple has been following for a while. Consequently some resellers will likely bundle "256 MB RAM free* with purchase of new iMac" where *denotes a $60 installation fee or something.
3) The video cards are always a couple notches under the best they could have reasonably done (witness the PowerMacs still having the same crap cards after a whole year).

Yeah. Wasn't the original iMac introduced in May... three months before it started shipping?

Assuming it's accurate, I was pretty close on a lot of the technical accounts. Right with the video cards, right for the low end aside from HD size, right on the midrange aside from RAM, right to have reservations about the top end being faster than 1.8.
I'm pretty appalled they would sell everything after the low end with only a measly 256 MB RAM. I also have trouble believing they'd sell the low end for anything less than $1500, given the new enclosure (Apple charges a premium for style) and G5 "exclusiveness".
We'll see the final truth when they are actually released though.

"Sources said the new model will be similar in design and style to Sony's VAIO W700G, but with sleeker lines and contours. "It's not fair to compare the new iMac to the Sony model," said a source. "But it's the closest thing to it that currently exists."
Retarded.
Retarded.

If this is true, I win the "prediction of the year" award, and should be rewarded with 1000 extra posts added to my lot. Or a free iPod

These things are actually pretty cool in person.

Ya well Apple should give you 1000 points for copying such a piss poor design.
Look at the TAM, people didn't want it.
The new 30" isnt shipping until August...
