About the MS office thing: you said you're in school, right? Perhaps your school is cool like mine was and bought licenses for every student. For $10 I got a fully licensed copy.
Also, good idea to wait on the iPod, since prices will surely drop when MS drops their iPod killer....yeah....

I think they just ask you where you attend school, and that's it. I never had to enter any ID information.
