I went to Tisch for Film & TV and I highly recommend it. I graduated last December and I've been working for a leading primetime TV drama since January.
For music, however, I have no idea... that dept is brand new.
bb
Syracuse University.
Look at their Music Industry program. Also..you can play on the marching band. Best part is that rehearsals are done in the dome. So come rain or shine, you'll be cool and dry.
Let's hope the football team makes it to the top 25 this year.

I think NYU's music program is in Gallatin. Tisch has a recorded music program, for music production and the like, and many of the 60 kids they had in it this, it's first year, were also musicians, but the final projects were very production oriented, not so much compositional or performance-based. I study film at Tisch and I love it. I only wish it was easier to afford
I go to Cornell University and I'm very happy there. I'm not going to give you a lecture on why you should go there - you should make your own decisions. But, I am available to answer any questions. Shoot me an email at cdd25 AT cornell DOT edu,
One thing though: if you decide to go there, bring a big jar of Vaseline and get ready to be ****ED by the bursar's office.

You might as well make that a standard disclaimer for any good school in the US

There's always Julliard.
Went to Columbia. I like it.

Yeah, probably. But, that provides little comfort while writing checks.

What I should have said was "Everyone's happy at Cornell. Happy, that is, until they hit the bottom of the gorge at 70 mph."
I really shouldn't joke about it. We had several suicides last year and it was a pretty big deal. Their families were totally devistated. There are several gorges around campus and, when I'm there, I walk over one of them at least once a day. Frankly, I'm a little surprised Cornell is known not for its world-class research, roll in the Mars rover project, or (ahem!) world championship race car team, but for its gorge-related suicides. I can see myself in a job interview:
So, Cornell, eh?
Yes, sir. Engineering.
Ever see anyone jump into a gorge?
--sigh--
NYU is nice, but I'm glad this is my last semester coming up!
Me too.
yeah, juliard might be setting my standards a bit to high.

I heard that Cornell is "gorgeous" place to live
Cornell aint bad. but as far as the CITY goes, check out Cooper union. my kid sister went there for a while, had a blast then gave up being an architect and came back upstate to Cornell, and now we both go there. good school, but be prepared for CRAPPY COLD ithaca winters. maybe im just bitter- though i was born here in ithaca i did have the endless summer thing going on for four years- two in FLA. and two in HI. either way, chances are that cornell has what youre looking for- provided you can afford it and dont mind the greek system. (isnt much else to do here in the winter [unless youre totally hardcore] besides get drunk and try to get laid.)
fyre4ce- you and i should hook up sometime and rag on 'NNers.
nah.

Dan,
Wait till buttermilk falls freezes over and it's climbable. Ithaca winters are crappy, but don't you think they're pretty standard for upstate NY? I spend five years in Rochester enjoying winter in the ghetto, and before that, a bunch in bumf*%k western NY where there's snow and ice AND no people with opposable thumbs.
how about dorm life at these colleges? vs. apartments?
There are no dorm style res-halls at NYU (I.E. two person rooms with a bathroom at the end of the hall for everyone on the floor). Most freshmen get suite style residences where they share a bathroom with 1-3 other people. Many freshmen and I think all sophomores and up go in apartment style residences with kitchens and bathrooms. The housing is pretty nice, but sometimes you get put far away from campus, which some people like and some find annoying.
Although I hated it...Hofstra's Music school is probably the most under the radar school for music in all of New York.
SOme of the people that work there are phenomenal musicians, who worked with people Like John Cage, Jim Henson, and i even had a teacher named Herbert Deutsche...thats right, the co-inventor of the MOOG!
anyway, great school for music, look into it!

hmm....nyu is a good school, however it seems as if you leave with a social stigma.
i just finished my grad degree and several others in my program went to nyu as undergrads. smart people, all of them. but emotionally f*cked. not one has, or seems capable of, a normal platonic or intimate relationship. not to mention they all have a holier than thou attitude. for example (one of many) an individual brought one of their nyu friends out with several of us for the evening, and this individual (guy) wouldnt even speak to my girlfriend, because he felt he was way to good to associate with her. but then he found out she did her undergrad work at oberlin, and then he proceeded to set up camp in her ass for the rest of night. which of course, annoyed me.
and i have many many many more examples/ stories if you're interested.
so yeah......go to nyu, get an awesome education while you're there, but dont let them suck you in and screw the rest of you up.

I'd say Columbia, but honestly I don't know how our music program is. We're partner schools with Julliard of course, and I think that you can do a combined undergrad program but it's extremely competitive to get into.
I had a friend who went to Queens College for music. I hear they have a pretty good music ed. program. At least, this particular friend of mine could have gone to his pick of places, but went there.
If you aren't focused on NYC, but don't mind going further afield in New York State, I know there's a good music ed. program at SUNY Potsdam. (bring your snow tires!) And, of course, there's the Eastman School of Music here in Rochester.

Oh my god! They have douche bags in colleges these days? What has the world come to?
Well to be honest I got b's and c's at regular high school, and a's and b's at Music high school, and my boards, well high on oxycontin=1180, and sober=900. So My school references will have to count a whole lot, lol. Anyways...
My cousin is at NYU and his freshman year was at McDougal Street right on Washington square, and his sophomore year was on cliff street in the financial district, both beautiful locations.
