Marathon New Sounds is a community sound modification for Bungie's seminal 1994 first-person shooter Marathon. Distributed as a replacement Sounds file for the classic Mac OS version of the game, it swaps out weapon, monster and ambient audio with reworked or alternate samples while leaving the maps, shapes and physics untouched.
What It Replaces
The mod ships as a drop-in Marathon Sounds resource file. Players back up their original Sounds file and substitute this one to hear new firing effects, alien vocalizations and environmental cues across every level.
Installation
Place the supplied Sounds file in the Marathon folder beside the application, replacing the stock file. Reverting is as simple as restoring the original from a backup.
Compatibility
Targets the original Marathon engine on classic Mac OS. The file is engine-compatible with Marathon 1; conversion utilities exist for Marathon 2 sound formats but are a separate package.
Preservation Notes
This is a fan modification, not an official Bungie release. Author and exact provenance should be confirmed from the README inside the archive before redistribution.
