Outland Gateway is the client application for Outland, a mid-1990s graphical multiplayer game network for the Macintosh run by Outland Inc. of Palo Alto, California. This package is the upgrade-only Gateway build, intended for existing Outland users who already have the connection tools, modem scripts, and games installed.
The Outland network
Outland was a pay-per-use service that brought Mac users together for titles such as Spaceward Ho, Chess, Reversi, Galley, Hearts, Backstab, and a graphical BBS. Players connected over MacTCP, via a Unix or Delphi telnet account, or by dialing the Palo Alto modem pool.
What this download is
This file contains only the updated Gateway application. The accompanying README warns that new users should instead grab the Outland Minimum Installer or All Files Installer, which bundle the connection tools and games needed to actually reach the service.
System requirements
The Gateway needs a 68020 or better Macintosh running System 7.0 or later, plus MacTCP, a Telnet account, or a 2400-baud-or-faster modem.
