LinksToMac is a utility that reads Links 386 DOS golf course disks and converts them into course files usable by Links Pro for Macintosh. The user inserts the original DOS course disks into a Mac equipped to read PC media and the program handles the extraction and translation automatically, sparing players from buying Mac-specific reissues of courses they already own.
What it does
LinksToMac scans inserted DOS disks for Links 386 course data and produces Links Pro Mac course folders from them. Older Links course formats are detected and skipped so that only the supported 386 generation is converted.
Floppy and CD-ROM support
The program works with the standard Super Drive floppy releases of Links 386 courses out of the box. Registered users gain the additional ability to convert courses from CD-ROM releases and from four-disk floppy course sets.
System requirements
The author lists any Macintosh, System 6.0.5 or later, 2 MB of free memory (2.7 MB when converting from CD-ROM), and 2 to 3.5 MB of free disk space per converted course. A Super Drive and Macintosh PC Exchange (or an equivalent INIT) are required so the Mac can mount the DOS disks.
Source disks needed
LinksToMac is strictly a converter and ships no course content of its own; the user must supply original Links 386 course disks for each course they want to play on the Mac side.
