Myst 101 Updt is an unofficial Macintosh updater package that patches Cyan and Broderbund's adventure classic Myst from 1.0 to version 1.0.1. Submitted to Info-Mac in April 1994 by Martijn Plak, the bundle was assembled with UpdateMaker and is intended to help players who hit problems with the original release.
Origin
The submitter discovered the 1.0.1 build of the Myst application on a local BBS and produced a redistributable updater so other Mac users could apply it to their existing installs. The package is explicitly unofficial and was not blessed by Cyan or Broderbund.
What it changes
No official change notes accompany the patch. Plak reported that the updated executable appears to work correctly and may resolve issues some users were seeing with version 1.0, but acknowledged he had no documentation for what was actually fixed between revisions.
Scope and requirements
The updater targets the Macintosh release of Myst 1.0 specifically and requires an existing licensed install; it does not contain the game itself. The original archive name was myst-101-updater.hqx, and the BinHex package decompresses to a Myst_1.0.1_updaters.sit StuffIt archive containing the patcher payload.
Distribution
Plak distributed the package through Info-Mac under the games/commercial path, making it one of the era's better-known fan-maintained patches for a marquee CD-ROM adventure. The author can be reached at Martijn.Plak@phil.ruu.nl per the original submission header.
