Jailbreak 1.0 is a 1998 graphic adventure game by Asa Swain of AArdvark Software, built with the StoryMaker authoring tool. The player takes the role of special agent 489, captured in a military complex after stealing important documents, and must use wits and a handful of items to escape.
Premise
The setup is classic spy-thriller pulp: the mission to retrieve documents has gone wrong, a secret alarm has tripped, and the agent now sits behind bars with only the objects in the immediate environment to work with.
Puzzles and items
Progress depends on examining the cell and surrounding rooms, picking up small items, and combining them in the right order to defeat several puzzles. The author describes the game as small in scope but not trivial to finish.
Graphics and StoryMaker engine
Jailbreak was built with StoryMaker, a click-driven adventure authoring system for Classic Mac OS, and ships with hand-drawn scene art for each location the player visits.
Distribution
The title was released as a free download on the Info-Mac archive in the late 1990s and is preserved on Macintosh Garden today.
